Thats the problem. I still fly with pilots who think we are overpaid. Believe it or not, there are more pilots that believe the above than pilots that believe in restoration.
Chapter 11 exit was how many years ago?

I think I know the "right answer" to that particular question, but its not about memorizing that. Its about your frame of mind and presentation. Make good decisions and show your work and you should be fine. Going in with "right answers" locked and loaded and they will see you coming a mile away. This is their job and they are VERY good at it.

They are absolutely hiring Captains. But they are hiring Captains that are going to be FO's first and need to know that they support the Captain while also making quality decisions that don't compromise safety and promote customer service and efficiency.

In our manuals it paraphrases to be truthful to the PAX with regards to delay. But I think gloopy is right, they want to see your attitude when answering this type of question. I would have probably told the Captain, "yes sir". It is not a safety issue to make a white lie PA and I wouldnt want to start a 4-5 day trip challenging the Captain on the first day. On the other hand, you could tell the Captain that you have to use the lav immediately and for him/her to make PA.

Black is the only color without exception that I can think of for shoes or belt that would go with a dark blue suit. You could maybe get away with other colors with different suits though, and candidates have been hired in other color suits. But if I were wearing a dark blue suit, black shoes and belt would be the ONLY way to go. By a mile.
Do you really want shoes and a belt that "pop" for a conservative interview attire?

Polish your shoes, wear tall socks and a suit that fits.

Conservative blue suit, black shoes and belt, red tie. End of discussion.
The interviewers were pretty funny about that stuff though. At the end of the interview they asked me I did any interview prep for the interview and I told them yes I did. Then they jokingly asked "you didn't get the memo about the red tie?" My tie was about half blue and half red. I went along with it saying I didn't realize that part of the interview portion was a sneaky color vision test. I told them I had to defend my tie decision as best I could saying there's a solid amount of red in there...at least 50% plus! They laughed about it and I got hired.

The world may never know.
Whatever you chose to wear though, look good in it. The suit should fit properly and everything should look new and shoes shined.

True, and I know a guy that got hired with an olive suit, wine colored shoes/belt and a beige shirt. But its the exception not the rule. Chicken or egg though I guess. Is it the exception because DL prefers Blue/Red, or just that applicants think they do so the vast majority wear that making the others look like outliers?

We had a guy in our new hire class who dressed like Don Johnson's character on the then popular TV show, Miami Vice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNA3OA7cY5U
So much so that we all started calling him Mr. Vice! The rest of us were all dressed like clones, but not this guy. Blue suede shoes, narrow purple tie, longish wavy hair, with the sunglasses on a string around his neck, inside, all day.
He was so cool in fact, he would argue with our instructor about the 727 systems and how to run the panel. Later, when he got out on the line, he would get into arguments with the Captains, about the B Scale, etc. He just had a way of pizzing people off.
Well, after 12 months on property, and two warning shots about keeping his mouth shut, from the Chief Pilot, on his 'end of probation' checkride he got into it with the check engineer on the first leg!
He was terminated at the end of the trip...and I moved up one number!

I went with black suit, black shoes, and I did wear the red tie. I really didn't want too, but I did. FWIW, the guy that wore the blue tie got hired that day too.... Just don't look like a clown, and act like an adult.
oh and ps: have a good haircut.... look clean.
