No details were given on where I faulted in the interview. He told me that typically the interview portion prevents applicants from getting a second chance at interviewing, however, he said my score was so close to what I needed that I can re-interview in a year.

I have re-hashed the interview in my mind several times and I am not sure what happened. One thing I thought of was the answer I gave to a hypothetical scenario. You're the FO, plane has mx issue at the gate, Capt. asks you to announce to the pax we have a delay due to weather. What do you do? I asked the reason for the Capt wanting to say weather and they replied he doesn't want to scare pax with mx issue. I said I respect the Capt. and his authority, but think we should tell pax it is mx, unless we were assured by mx it would be fixed quickly then we could use the wx excuse. We just need to be careful if we use the wx excuse so we don't look foolish later if the mx issue forces us to cancel.

Looking back, I am wondering if they were testing to see if I would stand up to the Capt. in defense of being totally honest with the pax. Maybe that hosed me? I dunno. Could be that or something else, but that is the only thing that stands out in my mind. Fortunately, I was offered a second interview for next May.

I was also very fortunate to be offered a job at US Airways the same day so off I go. In a year if I can get a CJO from Delta on the second attempt, it will be decision time. Maybe stay at US/AA? Time will tell.

Delta was a big disappointment as I always wanted to work there, but this new opportunity at Airways is exciting. I hope the new American proves to be successful going forward like I expect Delta to be.

Good luck to those who have Delta interviews in the near future.
Very gracious of you sir!!

As you are likely aware, aa/us demographics are very favorable. It is my opinion that going to DAL vs aa/us is really a crap shoot for a newhire. Good luck in whatever route your life takes.

I wanted to share my experience from last week. Fortunately, I was offered a CJO. Overall the interview process was very well done. From the moment you walk in, everybody tries to make you relax and be yourself. The recruiters were professional, friendly, and pleasant.

Regarding prep, I did use Aero Crew Solutions. This prep was crucial to my success. I believe the key is to travel to Atlanta to do the prep face-to-face. Skype or "over the phone" prep just doesn't cut it IMO. I can't say enough great things about Scott with Aero Crew Solutions! If you have an interview upcoming, DO HIS PREP.

Do you know how soon he was able to schedule his interview? Main question being, now that everything is accelerating, what is the timeline from invite to interview?

Sorry to hear that, Starcheck. Good luck at US/AA and hopefully you'll have a big decision to make a year from now!

Does anyone have any advice on how to answer that question. I have heard that delta is really big on captain authority and wants you to comply with the request to make an announcement that you have a weather delay but then I heard a guy that stood up to the captain and refused to lie to the passengers and didn't get the job either? Anyone know what they are looking for here?

Do you comply with the captains authority or do you stand up for your morals and not lie?

You could always answer;

"I'd hand the PA mic to the Capt. and say, 'Here, you do it'. Because it's his airplane, if he wants to lie to the passengers, that's his decision, but I'm not going to do it for him."

OR...you could just say, "Yes Sir" and be done with it.

Perhaps they are not looking for a 'right' answer, but rather your attitude in answering the question.

Now, in the real world, as a newbie on probation, I'd probably say "Yes Sir."

But as a 15yr. F/O, I'd probably tell him to do it himself.

I know the standard attire for an interview is navy blue suit and red tie but what color do most guys wear for shoes and belt? I can't imagine black is the color so just wondering what guys usually wear?

Keep in mind Delta is hiring potential captains. Do you think Delta wants to hire liars or captains who have no problem telling lies to our customers? Think what you would do if you were the PIC and that's your answer.

Black is the only color without exception that I can think of for shoes or belt that would go with a dark blue suit. You could maybe get away with other colors with different suits though, and candidates have been hired in other color suits. But if I were wearing a dark blue suit, black shoes and belt would be the ONLY way to go. By a mile.

Do you really want shoes and a belt that "pop" for a conservative interview attire?
