I sure enjoyed it up there as well, though.

I'm aware the pay scales don't revert to year 1 when you upgrade to captain. However (assuming upgrade in 10 years and retire at 65), somebody who is 43 when they start will only earn that top tier captain pay for 12 years while a 23 year old will earn it for 33. Makes the young guy's average annual compensation way higher than the old guy's.

The issue is probably more one of trying to hire a pilot so they don't fall in the midst of a retirement bubble that looks like a snake swallowed a Volkswagen Beetle. Delta needs to level that curve without overtly engaging in age discrimination, JMO.
In other news an applicant that I recommended was told he needed to have a graduate degree & higher GPA. It appears Delta Airlines is once again engaging in an astronaut style selection program. It also says something of our being the flavor of the day. Had a SWA pilot on the jumpseat sounding a lot like he wished he was at Delta the other day.

On a similar note, I have an AF2 buddy. He didn't make the cut.

The flow-ups didn't participate in an "astronaut style selection program."

Time will tell how that's gonna work out. I'm not sure I'd jump into that mess at this point. My son's little league coach has been at Eagle for 17 years. I think he'd persuade your buddies otherwise.

Agreed...I think there is plenty of uncertainty and potential bad news in their future. Trying to keep them open minded about what to do if Delta calls.
