I've always wondered about this, it happens quite often. Apparently there are some people that they want to come in and they are given the opportunity to fix their apps before they get in. These people have to be seriously connected

I received two such emails in October.
1 - Add your HS info (I had an AA, BA, and an MBA).
2. List all military assignments separately - not one chunk - although I have been in same unit since day one of 13 years to date.
Emailed them back to show my appreciation to them for their consideration.
All that being said...still waiting for a "come on down!" email.

Training for new pilots, flight attendants begins as mainline fleet grows
January 17, 2014
Delta welcomed the first groups of newly hired flight attendants and pilots last week who will begin weeks of intense training before hitting the line in early March as the airline flies more mainline aircraft.
Delta has extended more than 650 offers for flight attendants positions and expects to have 1,500 trained by summer. Flight attendants were selected from a pool of more than 70,000 applicants, of which 13,000 were either internal candidates or employee referrals.
Before they can serve Delta’s annual 165 million customers, flight attendants will go through seven weeks of intensive training where they are required to maintain a 90 percent average throughout each component of training, which includes flight attendant ground school, Delta history, emergency management and customer service training.
“It’s an exciting time at Delta and we’re excited to be in a position to grow the company and welcome the newest members to the In-Flight family,” said Joanne Smith, s.v.p.–In-Flight Service. “Many of our trainees are Delta employees with years of customer service experience while those new to the company come armed with qualities and diverse backgrounds that will serve Delta well in the years to come. I look forward to following their progress through training and seeing them on flights soon.”
Newly hired flight attendants will be based mostly in Atlanta, New York City, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Boston.
Delta’s newest pilots began their training regimen on Monday as the airline expects to hire 300 pilots by the year’s end to prepare for a wave of retirements over the next decade and beyond.
The 14 pilots will undergo approximately seven weeks of training that will cover Delta aircraft systems and procedures as well as an extensive full-motion simulator time in preparation for side-by-side training with a Line Check Pilot flying Delta customers, among other things.
This group follows a contingent of approximately 100 previously furloughed pilots who will soon complete training and take the right seat on the Boeing 717, MD-88 and Boeing 737 fleets. Of the 14 pilots who began training on Monday, all of them have military flying experience.
“The applicants we see right now all have many years of flying experience either in the military or with other airlines,” said Jim Graham, v.p. and chief pilot–Flying Operations, as it has been nearly four years since Delta has hired new pilots. “This latest hiring represents a generational shift for Delta as we look to welcome many new pilots and we’re excited to have such a carefully selected and truly experienced group of aviators join the Flight Operations team while our current crews pursue upgrade opportunities.”
Both IFS and FlightOps have spent months screening and selecting the right applicants for the positions. Unique to IFS, the group implemented a five-hour long interview process developed by frontline flight attendants, while FlightOps uses current and former pilots to administer a two-day applicant evaluation.
“As Delta people, we’re extremely proud of our company, the culture we’ve built and what we’ve accomplished over the last several years,” said Steve Dickson, s.v.p.–Flight Operations. “When we hire, we’re making sure each candidate has the professional skills to do the job well while also embodying our shared values and reflecting positively on the Delta brand.”

Not exactly right ... we had some come back to the LEFT seat. They bid what they could hold.

So they got awarded the left seat in the December bid? They have already completed training for their return plane for the most part. (Though of course the 717 guys are waiting for OE)
