I won't be bidding NYC. Not a commuter and not commuting to junior rsv just for upgrade, particularly in NYC. 3 airports of coverage in a train wreck of a city? No thanks!
I bet I'll be on the 10-11 year first chance upgrade plan for ATL, which is far better than the 2000-2001 hires that are looking at 16-17 years minimum. Hockey of course was being overly negative as usual by a factor of at least 1.5

These times will definitely be coming down. Age 65 and the post 9-11 stagnation were the culprits that held up the 2000-2001 guys and gals.
Hell, the 2008 hires practically "won the lottery" compared to the 2000 and 2001 guys. Just a few numbers junior, 7-8 years younger, missed the furloughs and the glory years of 2002-2006.

I just looked.... and as a 2001 hire I will be able to hold the most Junior Captain position New York 88 (8114ish) in January of 2020. I will be able to hold the most Junior Captain position in my base mid 2023. Over a 31 year career I will be a captain for about 8 years assuming I don't bid captain in NY. If I do bid first Capt position available and commute I will be a captain for about 11 years. Not the career I envisioned.

Thats going to be the going rate for junior upgrade for that group...
I agree, he would be a 97 hire. There are approximately 3000 numbers between him and a 2001 hire so add an additional 4 years to upgrade for 2000-2001 hires.

- I figured age 35, then 9/11 happened
- I figured age 40, then Bush* signed that crap from Southwest pilots raising the retirement age to 65
- I figured age 45, then we merged & discovered "capacity discipline"
Now that it looks like mid to late fifties ... why even bother? Being an FO for Delta isn't a bad gig
