In the past, the company has basically said during the first few days of class what categories (and corresponding number of positions) are available for the class and then started with the most senior pilot and worked their way down letting each pilot make his choice until there is no longer a choice remaining. As an example:

30 new hires in a class. Categories available are 10 ATL 717 B, 15 DTW 717 B, 5 NYC M88 B. If the top 5 senior pilots choose NYC M88 B and the next 10 choose ATL 717 B, then the last 15 are getting DTW 717 B whether they want it or not.

I am not certain that this is what they will continue to do this time for new hires, but I expect it will be.

From post above:

" top 5 senior pilots" --

1. how does one determine "senior" if you are a new hire? Age, bra size, etc.?

Really? I always thought it was the lowest one is senior? (just an assumption on my part, not actual knowledge) So with a 9xxx it's a win....

It used to be by DOH in each class, but sometime in 2007, it was changed to SSN because someone sued for reverse age discrimination. True story.

Dang had they sued prior it could have made me at least 30 #s senior. Oh well I'd rather be younger anyway.

Would that not make them ALL equal within the class?

Did you mean DOB?
