Any way around this? I'll send a letter w/ her if she makes it to the interview but it just seams bass ackwards to me.

Baja.

BTW - If hired, you all will be stoked if you know what I mean. ;-)

Some good news...the number of furlough bypass guys that are accepting recall is down from over 150 to 134.

I'd heard that the new algorithm wasn't looking at internals until after selection for an interview, however, everyone I know that's gotten the call (myself included) has them.

So I don't know if they matter pre-interview or not, but certainly wouldn't hurt to ask for one (or many).

I know at least 18 have resigned, while 14 were sent certified letters because they never responded. That info is several weeks old though.

The big variable will be how many said that they would be returning but won't end up returning. I bet there's at least a couple dozen recalls who said they would return just to keep their options open for an extra couple months, but who may not end up actually returning. Even if you know you won't go back, why lose a seniority number in July or August when you could keep it til November or December, just in case?

Question: For retiring mil guys. If a retirement date is not requested yet and a call to interview comes, do you think we should set a date prior to interview or wait until we get a job offer? Does not having a date hurt one in the interview?

Sure would be nice to wait until the bird was in hand, but I'm thinking I should commit prior. Four months between retirement and terminal leave is a long time.

I enjoyed my AF career, but when I was one month into my eligibility I couldn't wait any longer and put my retirement notice in. It was just time to get out. I had no idea what I'd be doing when I retired, but I knew I would be able to find something. Then the airlines started hiring so I got my stuff together and put an app in with Delta. Things worked out and I started 10 days after I went on terminal leave. So I don't have any experience for what you're trying to do, but to say if you have other options (mil contract job?) why not plan on that and then have a job that is much easier to leave in two weeks than possibly getting locked in with a stop-loss or AFPC glitch that keeps you in longer than you would otherwise desire? However, if you do decide to go the route of playing it as safe as possible and waiting I personally think the greater risk is missing out on some seniority numbers you could have had rather than the job itself. In 2010 Delta gave some pilots job offers with many months left to go on their time to retirement before they were available.

Not having a date does not effect whether you get hired. It might effect when when you can accept a class date. Seniority numbers are handed out in class.

Whether you retire depends on your risk tolerance. If not hired you could lose your currency while trying to find a gig.

Some have managed to keep both gigs going while awaiting gaps in training.

I thought it was long too, but it seems to be slipping by pretty fast and the phone has been silent (no calls for interviews). We had another guy in our unit wait until he was hired and then throw down retirement paperwork, it worked out with him he will be entering training in January and got interviewed August.

Not having an established retirement date won't hurt your hiring chances. It will affect your date of hire. Seniority is everything in this industry. Even one class date can be huge depending on where you want to be based and want you want to fly. Good luck! You're gonna love DAL!
