Delta Hiring News

I'm curious as to why the furlough returns are being referred to as "new hires." With their return (assuming 150ish) and the 115 Compass flows, will off-the-street/XJ hires be closer to 35 or 185?
I'm not interested in gauging my chances, just want clarify why the furlough returns are being referred to as "new hires" when many were hired a decade ago... honest question.
Thanks.

I have read that the plan is 50 pilots per month November through January and 20 per month after that on an as needed basis. Compass has a hold back provision that could leave space in early classes. I don't know if Mesaba has a hold back provision and I don't know if Delta plans on bringing back furloughs all at once or metered throughout the process. There are a lot of possibilities; use your imagination. I choose to believe that zero furloughs will return, Delta will only run classes of 20, and Compass won't hold back. Of course, I'm at Compass so I might be biased.

Endeavor/Pinnacle/Mesaba does have the right to hold back 3 months. It's a fact and I kinda think they will do it.
143 furlough returns (if all show up) and 7 Compass pilots will take up the first 3 classes of 50, then 20 Compass pilots per class til the middle of the year. It gets sticky if Compass does hold back pilots 3 months, leaving their slots open. Does that mean the Endeavor pilots get the next crack (which also may be held back), and then street hires This holdback does leave the possibility open for off the street new hires in the earlier classes next year.

In my opinion, the numbers you are trying to calculate are unknown. The last number I heard for furloughs that responded they will return is 143. There is a near zero percent chance that 143 actually return since there are few if any consequences of saying you will return then resigning later. A pilot furlough scheduled for a November 4 class could resign on October 21 and still give two weeks notice. Some might just not show up for class. You can see how that would change hiring numbers.

Can't wait for the emails to start being sent out for new hires!

FWIW, and I'm not in a position to cut and paste it, but SD put out a pilot memo about hiring that said that the first class with non furloughees will have off the street hires in addition to Compass and Mesaba flows. Whether that means just the Endevour guys or true OTS hires he didn't say, but you guys are really getting wrapped around the axle on this numbers thing. You need to disregard the "300" number. That is just the number the BOD authorized to hire as a start. It will change upwards. There will be plenty of slots for everybody. Not everyone will make it in the first few classes, but they will make it. Stop, relax, take a deep breath, and go update your app. Good luck to you all!

Not meaning to slam ALPA but it seems to go against "Unity" to hire others off the street that have never paid any dues. Granted there are many highly qualified pilots outside of ALPA but seems like they should begin at the lower echelon rather then going at the more highly desired or sought after major jobs. Thoughts Bucking?

Not everyone will "make it" to Delta, regardless of how long Delta hires. Here's a news flash for ya: Not everyone who submits an application (or interviews for that matter) gets hired.

Dang it! Foiled again! Just when I got my breathing thing down to an art! I was gonna sell instructional videos on Sporty's: "How an Airline Captain Should Look and Breathe".
