Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Actually, Johnso, IMHO, bringing smaller jets to the company and getting giddy is shortsighted. Do we want to become a regional carrier or do we want to play on the big playground? I understand where you guys are coming from. You are a product of the regionals. Yes, let us absolutely recapture our scope. But, no, let us not get comfortable with settling for that. Again, growing small is not growing big. We should shoot for growing big.

For some reason a tired Trojan Horse with "one list" or "brand scope" emblazoned across it flying a "unity" flag gets trotted out right about now. Usually it is a distraction for a scope sale, going back to MidAtlantic, the "anyone but a NWA subsidiary" scope concession, Compass, and even recently revived via back room chatter during Moak's secret 76 seat grievance settlement (although no one correlated it then ... Moak can keep a secret). Supporting rumors of high pilot attrition, the need for stability and potential staffing shortages fill the logical cracks.
I don't know why this Trojan Horse is pushed across the field whenever scope officially isn't in play. My guess is that mainline fears interference with more outsourcing and uses the distraction to negotiate in the clear. After all, the bulk of our outsourcing goes to union breaking carriers and the folks most likely harmed (or at least diluted) are fellow union members.
Of course, my hope is always is that there is some seriousness to the rumors, but when accompanied by false statements like "the Company decides the list." When this rumor is accompanied by a Single Carrier Petition with the NMB, then I'll take notice.

I'd like to put a DC9 in my back yard for the kids to play with. Wonder how expensive one would be?
Buzz, you're missing the point. Job security is pilots below you on the (growth of the company) and what you can hold is how many guys are senior to you (how many guys above you will retire before you). What you're missing is more airplanes, more seats (even 70 seaters) will give you additional opportunities to choose QOL (lower paying seat, whether CA or FO) or go for the money (less seniority at higher paying seat). If we got 70 seaters you would see some senior guys bid QOL over pay and vice versa. The key is to the flying on property - which we have not done in the past - basically because senior guys in 80s and 90s thought: "Who would want to fly the little jets?" Don't make that mistake again. And that is not to dismiss large A/C scope (JVs, etc).
