Having some size compensation issues, Carl?
Capacity means pax and cargo. And even if it's only double, I still don't get paid double. I get paid a small premium for the much larger capacity. That's my only point.

One would think that is because the much larger capacity is only a small portion of your overall job (regarding qualifications/training/experience required).

One could say that holding a 747 Captain position is much more due to seniority and chosen lifestyle than it is any other metric (ability, experience, etc). Therefore, that pay premium compared to other aircraft is much more a function of time on property than it is what the actual aircraft is. So why not just build these pay premiums into the longevity scale and reduce the influence a particular aircraft has on a pilot's pay rates?

This has been my point all along. It has absolutely nothing to do with ability. The job is the same regardless of what airplane you fly. There are some differences, but for the most part Carl only "works" for about 45 minutes each flight. Half of the rest of the time he is sleeping and the other half he is drinking coffee and talking on the radio. That's not to disparage the job.. it is what it is. But to say he "earns" his money because he carries more whereas a DC9 pilot who is hubbin' and spokin' in the weather all day does not warrant as much is absurd. Carl has "earned" the right to sit on his ass and talk on the radio now and again by virtue of his seniority. Nothing more. Saying a guy has to pay his dues I guess is not horrendous, but it also reeks of egoism. If we had 50 777s and a DB plan, this argument would not be a factor. But we don't and it is short sighted in that the current system does not put more money in more pilot's pockets over the course of a career. But to guys like Carl, it is all about his "productivity" and that is killing YOUR career earnings.

Buzz,

Not sure if you are aware but you don't have to file any paperwork other than to fax the company a copy of your medical. The reimbursement is automatic and listed on the righthand side of your paycheck. I believe it's a negative (number) which is a positive in this instance!!

I responded to tsquare who was making management's arguments for them when he cautioned us against thinking we could claim pay like UPS and FDX enjoys. He said they were way more productive than we are. That is false.

It's not just DAL. All airlines define their pilots productivity by minimizing credit time and maximizing hard flight hours. Tsquare is trying to redefine pilot productivity in relation to revenue generated. That's a different metric than productivity.

Does the company know if it is an EKG year and compensate in turn?

Actually tsquare, trying to discern your point is often times quite difficult.
