With the proliferation of the regionals there is getting to be a lot more lifers now. Most guys who are hitting 40 or older would rather stay put with their seniority and fly an airbus or 737 or large rj for that matter. The balance of power is slowly tipping IMHO. Not saying there aren't guys trying to get out but the mindset of the average regional pilot is much different today than it was even 10 years ago.

Bar, are you sure you're allowed to just bring a motion out of the blue? I thought there was some sort of process... like with Compass.

Couple days ago I said if I was a negotiator I wouldn't even want to publish an "opener".
They are a waste of time at best and counterproductive at worst. Laying out detailed positions in public before the talks even begin would be foolish.
Looks like ALPA felt the same way. Thankfully.

The whole kabuki dance of the "openers" is now behind us.

Now we can get down to business. Those of us on this forum are a bunch of airline junkies who crave information. But we're also smart enough to know that this negotiation will be conducted in closed rooms. Not in public. That is as it should be and as it must be.

Good improvement. So amended.

You should also negotiate minimum standards for newhire pilots in there. I don't think I've ever seen this before but it could be very beneficial with the upcoming "pilot shortage" / massive hiring / whatever.

All pilots hired at Delta shall have:
Civilian background-
3000 TT,
1000 Turbine PIC

Military flight training successfully completed-
1000 TT
500 Turbine PIC

Or whatever you guys feel appropriate. Keep the standards high. That'll help combat a lot of downward pressure in the future. They'll have to keep wages high to attract the qualified applicants when there is a shortage of them out there.

Contract Opener:

My view of the CO is that it was very stale, simple and nothing of substance.

In all honesty, I think this is what it was supposed to do. Negotiations is an art and part of that art is to see who provides the first set of numbers, or who sets the ceiling. I hope the negotiating team/ALPA is very keen on this process.

Imagine if the CO provided the numbers and the details? The whole process of negotiations would be negate. And as far as the hotel room requirements (sprinklers etc), those are just fillers. They have no substance for our process.

We need to be unified at this point and talk to our reps. Airing our distaste on this board will only weaken our position.

Fraternally,

TEN

Betting the farm you are ERAU grad, cfi, and closest you have come to mil flying or training is watching the history channel. Too bad I'm not in Vegas right now to lay some odds.

You wouldn't get too many fighter pilots at the 10-year point with much over 1,500 hours, but I think the military is probably the pilot hiring department's primary target. Tanker & Cargo pilots would meet those mins most likely though.
