I have been creeping this thread for a long time now with nothing to contribute. I just have to ask though Carl why are you so in love with SWA? Also why so much hate towards DAL? I am very close to someone who was most likely hired around the time you were at NWA and they love the new changes, mostly more than the old NWA ways... Now there are some complaints ( pay mostly but who isnt upset about that) but the rest is pretty minimal ( Sorry I do not have specifics). Regardless, as someone who someday wants to fly at DAL as my 1st choice and not SWA. I can't help but wonder what is so bad about being a 747 Captain at Delta... Sorry not really a useful post but I am very curious.
Ferd;
I think you got the majority of the reason: Training costs. 744B and 777B can already hold M88/90A, so why would they displace directly to it. Instead you'd have a downward training cascade as the guy above you bumps you.
Additionally, it the crew resources news, they said they wanted to shrink ATL 777 and grow DTW 777. Remember, when you take off from ATL to go to asia, 2 hours later you're over DTW. That is a lot of credit to chop off each rotation (approx 3-4 hrs).
Now back to "her honorable Mrs sucking hatch blower."
"What do they want me to do? Cook?"

Yes both..As said above the Bus is VERY roomy....I LOVED this. And that's about all I loved. The FMS is strange and the autopilot is the reason for the a/c having the highest # of ATC busts in all of aviation.
The NG is a little cramped, but @ 5'9" I didn't mind too much. As far as flying the NG is great. Easy FMS, great AP, but the overhead is still 60's tech. Systems goto the bus...VERY easy to master.
The best of both worlds would be if they combined the two a/c - but we know that won't happen.
I'm on the ER now and I miss the screens of the NG and the room in the bus...but the trips on the ER are better than both. Good luck in your hunt!

Are you looking for a VD off of the 330? Without the "premium" widebody stuff getting displacements, it might be tougher to get that. Do you miss Saipan that much???? Just wait a couple more years, or until your 2 year training freeze is up, and then you might be a lot more senior on that 330...
No VD for me, I've taken shots.......and I'm really impressed with the Bus. The Boeing box has some better stuff, but the technology and comfort on the Bus is way better. It's a perfect old guy's jet

Pffft....FAY has a Cracker Barrel...what more do you need?

The career earnings for a 20 year SWA F.O. using minimum guarantee and current F.O. pay rates on this forum-$2,554,344. Career earnings for a 20 year Delta pilot upgrading to Captain at year 10-$2,191,800. I started the Delta F.O. in the lowest paying equipment and moved to the next higher paying equipment every 2 years, and continued this progression at the 10 year switch to Captain pay rates. That is a $365,544 over the 20 year period. I would take that bet all day. Of course many will say the Delta rates will go up and the SWA rates will go down, but that is a gamble most betting folks would be willing to take. The SWA number is for minimum guarantee only. I will not speculate as to what each individual pilot will gross, but most pilots at SWA (including me) go well beyond guarantee on every paycheck. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
