Your posts looks to me like it was pretty competitive when you were hired. Cream of the crop even. You were hired under the current contract and in the last 1.5 years, you have gotten a 4% raise with profit sharing. Apparently our current contract was enough to get you and all of the other highly qualified applicants to join the ranks as Delta pilots. I am just wondering what has changed in the last year and a half that requires a major change in pilot compensation to get qualified candidates?

They also expect the 380 from a few other carriers like Air France and Emirates. As I stated, apparently Emirates has applied for a Alcohol license from the state of Georgia. If true this will start as a 777-300 then transition to a 380 when the loads improve. Apparently most of the US to DXB will be served by 380's.

But I'm also hearing a tone of resignation. Don't give up. This career can still be restored. It won't be easy... but nothing worthwhile ever is. There is no resignation, only reality. Point about the guys looking overseas is important. It is not for a lack of desire to see this through. It is to show portability of this career where previously it has been limited. Pilots without DB plans have portability, and it is something that the airlines created. If they feel that many will complain but never leave, they should not be surprised by those leaving DAL currently, those leaving if the agreement is sub-par, those that take the job then leave for better options, or those that pass up DAL completely.
You are correct, the career can be restored but if it is not, portability exists and many are weighing their options.
As for the other inference of the MEC, ask them. I am just a pilot that volunteers my time for the benefit of our pilots. I am not a rep, but that does not mean I may not run some day.

You now build up 1.95% of your total years pay (including your vacation pay and your end year bonus (set at 8%, for pilots employed before April, 2005). Variable between 4-12% depending on company performance for all new pilots, and older ones who have opted for the new scheme.
On top of this the company participates in the new "levensloop" saving scheme in order to allow the same pension total as before 01-01-2006. Pilots can opt for this or take the money (average of 6%) and invest or spend it themselves, this will result in a lower pension than before the new law took effect.

15 Boeing 777-200ERs and 9 A330-200. (7/Jan/07)
2. Orders:
Starting February, 2008 the first of at least 4 Boeing 777-300ER will start to arrive. And an additional 5 A330-200 options have been converted from options to orders.
A Boeing 747-400ERF (freighter) which was initially scheduled to join the fleet in February, 2007 has now been secunded to parent airline Air France for a period of at least 18 months (being operated by Air France crews).
Also an additional 4 Fokker 100's are coming in the next year. And 8 more Boeing 737-800's have been ordered as replacements for Boeing 737-400's.
