Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
There was a 747 Captain that had some kind of wicked skin disorder a few years back that after several hours airborne, his hand would sneak up his neck and he would start "snacking" on all the flotsam and jetsam molting off his face. He never flew with the same guys twice.
I guess this guy may have a point if we were truly that professional; the reality is we have a long way to mature as an airline. Im just wondering if we will actually kill people before leadership focuses on something a bit more than image. Every time I hear a LCA rationalize the way we train based on costs, the respect is subsequently limited to the four stripes. Im laughing at these line check blitz desks that have no participants, three years later and the average line pilot feels engaging one of these drones is more of a brainwashing session than anything constructive.

I agree with you and Frank. While I don't wear them anymore, I do agree long sleeves look better with a jacket. That's what I wore all my USAF days....jacket = long sleeve shirt and of course a tie. Short sleeve shirt = no tie.
Now, if we REALLY want to start a 100 page discussion........lets imagine an option of short sleeve shirts and no tie. Then we could get into a discussion of V neck t-shirts vs crew neck t-shirts. I was actually at a reception once and listened to two 3 Stars give each other $hit about their t-shirts with no tie
All in good fun.........I'll wear my hat till it's optional, which ain't going to happen anytime soon.

I prefer long sleeve shirts. Of course years ago poor ACL was nearly stoned from wearing long sleeve shirts. He barely survived. Times have changed.
I have little choice but to wear short sleeve shirts because I can't find a long sleeve that's actually long and sometimes the fabric is just chinsy.
As to our summer time attire? It's a fashion faux pas, let's admit it:
For summer time I say we start wearing something new. Last night I posted a hoodie with my own name on it. Now I want something to show off my guns.
Now that I think about it, my problem with our uniform is they don't make it broad enough at the shoulders, big enough in the arms and the inseam is too short.

I'll just remind you that George Patton would disagree with you. I agree we have a long way to go getting our training and procedures to fully settle into the merger. But, militarys through the centuries have known that there is something to "look sharp, be sharp"

Honestly, I think we have bigger fish to fry than uniforms..........but I agree with Patton vs Puller

Okay, I wear the hat and I wear long sleeves. The hat because my head gets cold from the bare spot and I look good in it. The long sleeves due to fear of skin cancer. Let's just establish that I'm a clean freak and paranoid to start.
I know I'm supposed to set the tone in my operation, but what about cutting your fingernails and flipping the debris on the floor? What about the guy who takes his shoes and socks off during cruise and just sits there barefooted? These have happened. I'm just waiting for the guy or gal who cuts their toenails in the cockpit. If I wait long enough, it will happen.
Here are serious questions that the line check blitz should address. They didn't cover it at In Command. They don't pay me enough to deal with these issues.

Went into Life Support at DM back in the mid eighties to get a velcro job. SSgt said it'll be two weeks! The new AD CC that replaced Ron Fogleman had TWO dozen flight suits and associated geedunk in for mods. The patches had to be individually plucked for stray threads, then coated with super glue, sewn to naugahyde and onto a velcro backing. The seams of the flight suits were all split open and then double bar tacked and stiffeners sewn into the collar and waist tabs. Said he learned that the "charm school" taught these pus nuts all the "de rigeur" elements of command. Having been transported in his predecessor's trunk after a night out, not all the leaders absorbed the "Creech" ways.
This is the mentallity that amazes me. Wear the hat, greet the passengers! What is really happening is our quality of training and standardization has gone out the window. While we lead the industry in taxi collisions, DCA airspace incursions, altitude and route violations, runway excursions (you never hear about them), landing on taxiways at home base, averaging about one takeoff every other month with the flaps up, a preflight where culturally incorrect information is deliberately entered before receiving a clearance, a culture where it's not the norm for the FO to verify or back up the captain (after all captain is god and incapable of mistakes), distance learning for ground school and train by bulletins and memos.
