Fast forward 20 years (assuming we're all still here). Do you still want the junior pilot to be able to "work the system" at your expense?
It wasn't really working the system. It was just bidding weekends off and everyone taking a turn at flying. You flew a trip, went to the back of the line. Now you fly a trip, jump to the front of the line, fly another trip, and keep doing that until you get into bucket 2. I will say I probably have a line in March due to the new system so it's good in that way.

If seniority does not matter then use the above link.

But, of course they figured it out..........you will get the OE trip or the shadow trip (which ever is greater - assuming they touch).

Clear as mud?

Thanks for the info Ferd, I got awarded the shadow trip but it doesn't show in my time card yet, it only shows me at 40 some hours and I was getting a little nervous that I screwed up my bid, but I will give it to the end of the month, sounds like I will be good.

The Southwest pilots are making a lot more money than us. There's no denying that. I just can't bring myself to start over at Southwest. I keep thinking of the Southwest pilots that went to United in 1999-2000 when United was making a lot more money. I keep thinking that someday we'll be the highest paid airline pilots in the country again. Hopefully sooner rather than later. I just wish we would stop outsourcing everything and stop shrinking. Shrinking wouldn't even bother me if airlines like Alaska, Jetblue, Virgin, etc. weren't expanding. As we shrink, other airlines are filling the void. We are just shrinking faster than they can fill the void right now. This will catch up to us eventually.

I also have no desire to leave the United States. I like it here.

Since I'm assuming you're a citizen of the US, that is comforting.

Generally, to meet the physical presence test, you must be physically present in a foreign country or countries for at least 330 full days during the 12-month period.

However, the minimum time requirement can be waived if you must leave a foreign country because of war, civil unrest, or similar adverse conditions in that country.
If I understand correctly...

You go to Emirates with the wife and kids, and you're living happily in Dubai. You're on a trip and while you're somewhere over the Atlantic on your way from Europe to JFK, the military (or Al Queda, or disgruntled college students, or whoever) decide to oust the UAE Royal Family.

So the Royals who own your airline flee the country and they insist their assets (like the aircraft you just landed in JFK) must not return to Dubai to avoid seizure. So now you're back in the USA without a way to get back to your family in Dubai, and the last you heard from them was a voicemail that they were going to try to make it 18 miles to the US Embassy on foot because their driver took off, and the cellphones don't work anymore.

And then you go to stay at your brother's house in Dallas and wait. For a month.

So in this case, you won't have the full US Tax Liability even though you wind up spending less than 330 days on foreign soil?

Are you crazy?

Our management types that read this board need to realize that if they refuse to restore a large portion of this PWA, places like EK will see DAL pilots applying to leave this stagnated career.

These contract jobs and places like EK and their total pilot package need to be where we are aiming.

FWIW, a EK pilot pay 60 bucks a month for medical for his spouse. It is full coverage. No deductible etc. These guys do nothing cheap, and are making 2 bln a year. The only break they are getting is that they do not pay landing fees in the UAE. They buy their jet A from Singapore. I want to start looking at these compensation packages.

No, the NIC award at USAir had all of their East widebody captains at the top of the list over all AWA Captains because they had INTL widebodies and AWA did not. The top 500 were all East pilots.

I'm saying its good to be senior reserve under the new bucket system. IF your commuting anyway, bid NYC and be senior reserve and never fly if thats what you want. I would get a crashpad as SC would add up on hotels in NYC. I could suggest a good one if you need it PM me.
