Our current system lets reserve pilots pick trips in open time the day prior. We just never have more than a trip or 2 per day. Last summer, I was bidding trips via yellow slip the night prior.

Just finishing up a 5-day trip tonight... and the rumors are all over the place about Delta possibly keeping the DC-9's through the end of 2013 now. I know how rumors can get out of hand and I don't put much credence in them. But I'm curious if anyone here has heard this one and/or knows anything about it...

Disregard, it's been covered...

You know you can do that on the DAL system, right? Just checking, as I have had some success in CVG as a very junior guy in a small category and in ATL as an even more junior guy (relatively) in having my preferences honored. Granted, it's often a toss up between the rotten apple trip and the rotten banana trip but at least it's a choice, kind of...

I think we can.... It's easy just buy/merge with AMR and their BK pay rates will dissapear as they are brought up to our rate. Followed by more profitability and not just restoration + inflation but an ACTUAL RAISE

We heard these same rumors about a week ago. It is possible that they stay until Dec 2013, but I was told it is only one of many plans.

First check your PM, something there I can't post here.

Second, in my view seniority on reserve is the same as for a regular pilot. Your schedule requests are awarded in seniority order. Since that's the case, why provide reserve pilots something not provided to regular pilots?
In a seniority based reserve system the expressed goal is a month off of work for senior pilots (defined however wants to define that) unless snowmageddon or similiar IROPs event occurs or they want to work.

So for regular pilots SILs should be mandatory per the contract to a percentage determined by the company and the union. The SILs should pay ALV. Those pilots should have to bid though and they can keep trips they want and the rest are unstacked in seniority order - not inverse order.

Because senior reserve pilots should not be getting a benefit that pilots inevitably senior to them in the category are not getting, a month off with pay.
Third, to me the buckets should be category contingent based on a formula that prevents the pilot one number junior flying all month in ones place. RAW was a formula and rather predictable imo. I want to get away from arbitrary scheduling systems, it's what is ruining reserve as is. What they could've done is enacted LOA 29 as is but without the buckets and brought back the high yellow.

But none of this 15 point garbage but maybe something that was equal to the longest trip in category plus 1 SC and decreasing proportionally down the reserve list. Such that if you are pilot 1 of 100, you get the max high yellow. Pilot 50 of 100 gets half a high yellow if they request it. Pilot 100 out of 100 gets a high yellow of 0. Now let RAW spread the unrequested flying evenly. Such that your RAW and work counts for something.

If you have 8 days on a row under this system and FTDT you could do 2 back-to-back 4 days. 10 days, 2 back-to-back 5 days. WB? 2 back-to-back 6 days.

I dont think they will keep the 9's but that is my opinion. I will say I find it odd that they still have as many crews in MSP as they do and after March I can't find a single DC9 departure in the system. Even the March open times apprears to be all dh on front end and back end of rotations. Thats what they did in MEM to spool it down, so I think the writing is on the wall for the 9 even in MSP and DTW. Also there has been no talk of moving the sims and they are about to give up that building right?

Thats my take on it. Engage crystal ball at your own risk.
