I have a question, if we're going to make a system that results in senior pilots not flying on reserve while pilots a few % points below them, or even 1 number below them, pick up all of their flying why don't we make a system where the senior regular pilots get paid alv but don't work and their flying is done by a pilot a few % points below them for no pay? If its fair for reserve why not regular line holders?

That's why we can't win this fight with the wrong equipment. Richard and Ed made it sound (during the Winter quarter conference call) that LGA isn't expected to be profitable. It allows us to reallocate airplanes from markets which lose more, into a market where they will lose less. Still, the long term answer has to be something like this that closes the scope gap.

This will NOT result in a system where the guy one number junior is picking up ALL the flying (or conversely, not being able to fly if the senior guy wants to).
What it DOES do is allow the senior guy who has a RAW of 35 the ability to possibly pick up a trip instead of the junior guy who has a RAW of 33.
I fail to see the outrage. If the senior guy has been flying a lot and has a RAW of 95, and he wants to fly even more, and the junior guy has a RAW of 35 and also wants to fly, guess who gets the trip...the junior guy!
This improvement to reserve merely allows the senior reserve pilot to receive more consideration some of the time, not all the consideration all of the time.
Iceman:
You're not starting an issue. The company has made the issue by their statements and aircraft allocation. Passengers, for a lonnnnng time have demonstrated the willingness to spend their money to travel to/from DFW and LGA. The company has demonstrated a willingness to waste money on fuel, less capable and reliable aircraft, while clogging the ATC system, ****ing off pax, and...most likely, spending money to correct baggage mis-connects. It's very frustrating to watch 'our' flying and routes handed out and serviced badly, IMMHO.

Completely misleading and erroneous logic. For starters, with the "bucket" system it merely means that things being almost equal between two reserve pilots, a senior guy reserve who wants to fly will, or a senior reserve who prefers not to will not, assuming we are comparing two pilots in the same reserve bucket.
This will NOT result in a system where the guy one number junior is picking up ALL the flying (or conversely, not being able to fly if the senior guy wants to).

I do too. I don't know how ftb got so allergic to RAW buckets, which are but a step in the right direction in fixing our reserve system. I think the problem is that he's only gotten here after reserve became purely awful, and after we all became non-scheduled lineholders. So he's focusing too much on making sure everyone suffers evenly, as opposed to asking how we can diminish the suffering.

Now, how do we reduce everyone's suffering?
Raw Score Bucket
Week 1 (06FEB12) Bucket 1, Pilot 1 has 0 raw and Pilot 2 has 0 raw. Both available for 4 days. 4 day trip pops up pilot 2 flies the 4 day, has 44 point raw score. Pilot 1 is not used on Tuesday and on his last two days of availability the 2 and 1 day trips are picked up by WS.
Week 2 (13FEB12) Bucket 1, Pilot 1 has 0 raw and Pilot 2 has 44 raw. Both available for 4 days. Neither is used on Monday. Come Tuesday a 3-day pops up, Pilot 1 has 0 raw and pilot 2 has 44 raw. Pilot 2 gets the 3-day.
Week 3 (20FEB12) Bucket 1, Pilot 1 has 0 raw and Pilot 2 has a 77 raw. A 4-day pops up and Pilot 2 is first for it.
Week 4 (20FEB12) Bucket 1, Pilot 1 has 0 raw. Pilot 2 is now in bucket 2 with a raw of 121.
Now that's in a 2 man reserve group. Consider this, each monday the pilots on the RUO with 4-5 days of availability (weekends off) will range between 1% and 50% on the list. So that could be in a MD88 category mean the most junior pilot is #35 of 70 give or take. Or as the cool kids say YMMV. Remember, in overstaffed and even non-overstaffed categories you get to 2 days or less and a lot of those trips are picked up on WS. Basically unless there is IROPS or a 2 day with DHs on it you'll only fly a 2 or 1 day trip off SC.
It'd take a lot of this most junior pilot first in the bucket to get to the point the top 10 or so pilots fly. As of right now many of those don't fly to the 3rd week on a raw only system. I know, i sit 30%, I'm in that mix. I watch it all of the time.
LOA 29 would've been a grand slam had the buckets been left out. There are some great improvements in there.
Seniority should matter, and for the pilots from 20%-50% their seniority is gone. Here's the question. If under the current system senior pilots weren't flying until week 3 anyways barring SC, then you basically had a system that said pilots 1-35 has a good QOL so why champion a system where now only pilots 1-10 will? YMMV again there.
It's the principle of this that I don't care for, anymore than pilots would care if the top 5% of regular line holders were given the month off for being in the top 5% and paid ALV while their flying was done by other REG pilots for 0 additional pay.
