Quick, delploy the RJs. What? They're all at LGA?

That's OK. DALPA will acquiesce to a side letter granting scope relief so the company can "fill the vacuum" in DFW with "Delta-branded flying." It's in our best interest, naturally. Please call your congressman to help get approval.

Luckily DALPA, ever on the ball, will obtain a very sincere verbal pledge from management to "give serious thought to considering the possibility of transitioning to a few mainline flights at some point in the distant future."

And yours is a standard donut retort to the question.. well... how many ARE active? You make the inactive cards sound like military reserves. That right there is funny stuff. Don't you think that there is a fair number of them that just signed with the intent of sending DALPA a message and have no intent of voting DALPA out? I certainly do. I know a few that have done just that. I even thought about it myself until I discovered just how shady they are.. and decided I wanted no part of them. Your personal "warning" means bupkus. However, you may be right that the donuts will grow if there is a weak TA.. but then again.. maybe not. It depends on what they can deliver. So like you, I will stop with this talk on this thread.. you can have the last word.

You're also on record misstating what's in the SW contract. You may well be one of those in DALPA that think we will need a very small raise to be in parity to SW. If you really think "reasonable" means something that exceeds the SW contract, you'll need to know what's IN the SW contract.

I agree. But 4,200 of us are certain that DALPA has no intention of struggling. We believe that with certainty based on the facts that come from DALPA on nearly a daily basis.

Pure BS. It will never get close to DC if our bargaining agent is bent on not even trying, and hiding the fact that they are powerless to reverse outsourcing. The first steps are for our bargaining agent to state the problems, state their strategy for returning us to leading the industry, then implement that strategy. Only after that will we need any political help. If you have no intention of fighting, you'll need no help from DC.

That's been your opinion from day 1, not just "at this stage". You've done nothing but excuse everything ALPA, and denigrate anything that discussed leaving ALPA. Interesting tactics you're using to achieve "unity". You exhibit the typical response from an ALPA for life guy. Never discuss why 4,200 + pilots would vote for an in-house union, only describe those fellow pilots as "preferring to see DALPA fail." Shameful. DALPA is failing. It's why an in-house union is being discussed. DALPA's failing is NOT because of the in-house push. It has resulted IN the in-house push.

They are not doing that because many of their members (like me) are insisting we continue this effort because it cannot be left to DALPA alone when the TA is released. We cannot be left with the standard ALPA talking points of: "This is as good as it's going to get guys. If you vote this down your whole MEC and negotiating committee will resign, and who knows how long the next TA will take..." Without a solid in-house union ready to step in immediately, DALPA will produce a weak TA. With a solid in-house union ready to step in, DALPA will realize that this TA is an existential threat to DALPA if they fail. There is NO disunity in that. It is nothing more than any pilot does every day - having a solid plan B.

BS. Management is scared to death of any union other than their friends at DALPA. Imagine the angst in not going to each other's kids' birthday parties anymore.

And others such as yourself feel that the best way is to specifically ignore any competitor that pays pilots more than us. Ignore AF/KLM, UPS, FDX and SWA. Always an excuse as to why we can't talk about them. This allows you to aim low, and get a quick contract. I can hear management's glasses klinking to your efforts now.

I'm pretty sure you're confusing the opener and the survey with that statement. You don't show your bottom line to the company, and that means you don't show them how much we're willing to settle for.

If you're not confusing the two, then your council chairman has an amazingly poor flair for analogies.

Sailing,

While I disagree with you fairly frequently, I respect your opinion and appreciate the thought you put into your posts, and your perspective. I DO recall well what you've said regarding what it will take to get a yes vote from you on our upcoming contract....

I, for one, and I'm sure I speak for many on this forum, appreciate what you've done regarding furthering the interests of Delta pilots in general.

Integrity is something that I believe in very, very strongly and I appreciate that quality in others. Thank You!
Very well said. I'm often amazed at some of the personal disrespect that a few posters choose to display. I think sailing has a pro-ALPA stance (I guess I do too, or more specifically, I favor improving ALPA over the DPA). Maybe sometimes he sounds more like a LCP than I would like. Seldom do I find that he lacks insight, or knowledge, even if some of his conclusions are debatable.

But he doesn't deserve some of the hysterics. In this case, three different posters have criticized him for speculating about the company's opener, and suggested this, somehow, means he's manipulating opinion. None of them could explain how they made the link between what he said and what they accuse him of, but simply attack him... because it's him.

If you can't coherently attack a person's thesis, because you have no point, it's OK to actually let it go. You don't get demerits for not posting.

Over 4000 pilots have indicated that they wish for a vote. Some, like your friends, could have just done it to pressure ALPA. Many did it because they don't like them at all. This isn't 40 we're talking about, it's 4000 or more. More will join or re-activate if they see a weak TA, and at least 6500 told ALPA what they wanted. I doubt many said "I want a 5% raise...." You may think so, but ALPA knows what they want, without knowing if they are donuts or not. That is the point, and you can hope the "hanging chads" or not "active" cards can derail the donuts, but the fact is there is discontent out there, and it will grow if ALPA doesn't go for a homerun here. Every profitable quarter and every article about the profitability of this airline makes the job a little bit harder for DALPA, and they just have to produce. They have to actually NEGOTIATE. That should be good for all of us. I too will stop this donut talk now, but my bupkus warning very well may come to fruition. I hope it doesn't and we are all satisfied with the eventual TA. Donut talk is over.
