What is with the stories around the campfire indicating that Delta is parting with 777's that are headed to Turkish?
Anyone?

There has long been talk of getting rid of the earlier ones for a fleet of LR's. We to are in the market for used 777's. The delay of the 787 has hampered that though.

Is there going to be a Net Gain or perhaps a Net Loss of 777's in the near term i.e. next 18 mos?
Obviously it is going to be the backbone of the long haul int'l lift for the future. It is a net loss in the near term that would be disappointing as it translates to significantly higher flight crew overage numbers.

Also you know that IF this were to happen, there would be gains and losses.
We are going to probably end up with the second largest fleet of 777's domestically behind AMR.

Heyas Guys,
Assuming (and it's a big assumption), that new duty times are around the corner, I'm not sure everyone really understands the implication.
Money is cheap. It's not the $100+ difference between a DAL crew and a Comair crew that REALLY makes a difference in the CASM. It's the work rules and crew availability.
If hard core duty rules come down, it's going to cripple regional airlines' abilities to single stage crews on overnights. That is, the crew flys 14 hours, brings in the late flight, does a reduced rest RON, then takes out the originator, and does another 12 hour day the next day. If you kill reduced rest and 15+ hour duty days, you HAVE to double stage crews (an AM crew AND a PM crew). No more extensions. No more jacking around.
This will more than double the crew costs for regionals. This will be the stake in the 50 seaters' heart. DAL was already on the way to rid themselves of the low end, and this WILL accelerate it. Imagine if PCL or ASA calls up right now and says "um, yea, our crew costs just doubled...can we get more $$$"? They'll be laughed out of the state.
Babbitt is NO friend of the regionals. I believe he as much as admitted that lax scope was a MAJOR failure of his ALPA administration, and he's going to be looking to even the score, and provide payback for those who supported him for the FAA post (and they ain't regional pilots...who weren't even born when he ran ALPA).
Hang on...

Nu;
Places like ASA have been staging crews as it is called since 2000. They use double crews. Like us there area few overnights that are nine hrs or so.
Places that will get killed are the ones like Mesa. ASA would get killed because they could not run the CDO (Continuous Duty Overnights: three to six hrs behind the door at a hotel while on duty)
I would love to see this, but 85-90% of the crews at DCI operate based upon the staged crew method. Why? It is easier to recover from an IROP.

I think Pinnacle would get hit hard too. It's pretty much the norm to get reduced rest there, plus they run a skeleton pilot group as it is.
