Yes. Male dancer is absolutely an option.

I'll post a picture.

Thus, can we review what those programs would be? COLAs? SILs? Winter SILs? PIRPs?

I like the idea of taking October through February or April off. I don't have another job option lined up but if I did, or if I had some other income source, I would jump all over an extended SIL program and heavily consider one that was even no pay. But I don't have that kind of second income source.

Also, with the currently offered PIRPS or PERPS, really what is the effective date of that? Anotherwords, the average line pilot would expect to still be getting a paycheck through when? Sep 10?
Well let see.
After 9-11 when they were getting ready to furlough a ton of guys they offered a voluntary leave, and not that many took it. Less would this time IMHO because the is not job market. Well, very little. They may offer it, but I do not see it doing much.
They can bring the ALV down to 72 and fly everyone at 65. That would add a line for every seven to 10 pilots. The can offer SIL, which work great but with being 1000+ fat and 450 or so they say for next spring, that would only go so far. The best you can do is get two months in a row before you need to become current. You cannot take on in a vacation month, training month or one if you will go non-current.
IMHO the best way to deal with staffing issue is to sweeten the perp now and not wait until the window closes.

CAL has a deal where you work half the month too. That would not be that bad either. The get paid for their credit time flow and have the rest of the month off unpaid. PBS just figures it out. A bud of mine does that and he averages about 40 hrs of flying a month.

With talk of possible furlough, has anyone looked at the DGS operation yet? Why not allow any furloughed pilots the guaranteed ability to perform DGS duties if they desire.

I am assuming because if they are seniority listed they get paid according to the PWA.

It is not really a cost savings. I agree it should be looked at. Most of those guys are former Captains.

Having gone through this the last time we furloughed, I can attest that DAL does try very hard to place furloughed guys into non-flying positions. I was offered a couple slots, one in training and one in the ops center, but had other things going on. Some of my buds took those offers and, in some cases, are still in the same positions and happily so. Furlough sucks, but DAL really impressed me with how much they tried to do for us. That's one of the main reasons I came back.

I know. A bunch of the non-pilot DGS guys just came back in 07 off their furlough.
There will probably be some openings like you mentioned if we do get to this.
