Looks like "THEY" got half and "WE" got half. Thank goodness the CRJ can't fly NYC to the Caribbean...can it?

2,100 miles at Mach .82 for the E175, the CRJ-700 will go 2,895. They roughly parallel the 737 but are slightly faster in cruise.

The E Series has been ETOPS Certified, but I don't know who operates them that way.

Pretty sure it can. At least on most routes. NAS is about the same distance as MIA and there's a lot of the Caribbean juat a very short additional distance from there. PR is around 4-5 hours depending on season and if you are WATRS capable or not (just one hour from land) but the E series might be able to do it either way.

Don't fret though, those RJ's are saving our bacon. Because of them and Alaska, we can get a 5/4/4/4 contract that puts real money in our pockets.

So the question remains, how much (if any) net mainline growth is this slot swap?

As our seniority list continues to shrink with retirements and we dicipline ourselves with capacity while all our outsource partners grow (large DCI jets, AS, AF/KLM, etc) and we become more expensive in the process, causing the beancounters to drive even more of our product off our list, can we at least admit that our management friendly scope is harming us? The first step is admitting we have a problem. Let's just start there shall we? Throwing around broad concepts like "feed" and defending mass outsourcing because "its legal IAW our CBA" rings more hollow by the press release.

Here you go:
Based on the 2012 hours and Delta’s continued strategy to win in New York, we will open a NYC 320 Captain and NYC 320 F/O category with this bid. These categories will be funded by closing the MEM 320 categories. We will surplus 73 MEM 320 A positions and 85 MEM 320 B positions. However, we will post 53 NYC 320 A vacancies, 54 NYC 320 B vacancies, 19 ATL 320 A vacancies and 25 ATL 320 B vacancies.... in order to balance Captains and F/O’s in some of the 73N categories, we will have a total of 20 73N Captain vacancies. As a result of that increase, and in order to balance the Captain and F/O positions in some of the bases, we will have 5 ATL M88 A, 20 MSP M88 A and 32 NYC M88 B vacancies.
On the surplus side, ... .
As for the rest, I don't see a whole lot of difference between us and Comair. We are run by the same people, represented by the same outfit, running out an aging fleet and shrinking while our partners take our flying. I expect our outcome to be better, but we share a lot of common threats.

I thought as much regarding the slot swap. If it were net growth like it was hyped to be, we wouldn't be able to shrink without hiring like we're doing. Instead a bunch of employees wrote their congressmen just so that we could shift some flying around and close another base while we keep shrinking. Isn't that our new ad campaign? Keep Shrinking? If I was an ace at photoshop I'd be all over that.

Anyway one difference between us and Comair though. We have major scope issues to be sure, but we have scope. If we don't make significant progress towards fixing our scope as the highest priority in C2012 then shame on us. All Comair has is Comair scope. Our scope is much broader and more powerful. We just have to start using it to reverse the outsourcing abuses.

Gloopy,

The other thing we might be seeing is a pull down of B positions and increased A positions as a result of the new FTDT reducing the crew augmentation requirements.
