They can already increase the outsourcing with Alaska- because nobody is going to stop them. They're ALPA after all, all in the family.

Or we're about to merge.

The cost of oil is just the price you have to pay to be in business. It should not be of concern to me or any other pilots. UAL/CAL is expanding, DAL is implying-->Shrinkage. OIL is high for UAL/CAL, Alaska, KLM/AF, PCL and Hawaiian too; but somehow they are flying our routes and we are paying them,,hmmmm

There are two forces at work within ALPA. You got those that have theirs (767 Captains) and those who want a shot at that wide body Captain job before they retire. The first crowd wants Delta to do well to preserve the deal they've got. At the end of the day they don't care what happens to anyone as long as Delta does well and they keep their good deal until they're gone. The rest want a balanced approach that protects longevity, seniority and opportunity. The Captains are firmly in control of the ship. It strikes me as odd that some junior MD88A's are firmly in the "outsource anything, just pay me" camp. Frankly, they just do not understand economics.

The only religion that might change things is unity. As an ALPA politician, it is hard to be against unity (although most are self interested behind the closed door). As sovereigns begin defaulting on their obligations and fear increases I expect the narrow focus on Delta's well being to intensify.

Delta has hired about 7,400 pilots in the last decade ... they just don't have seniority numbers.

Delta is better hedged than our competitors at the moment. We can also try to save fuel where we can.

Who knows, but the LGA slot swap is done, and DAL is one of the few in a position to make it happen if they so choose.

I would suspect parts of an airline or a small airline if they decided that further consolidation was necessary. Maybe assets too!

There are a few players out there that are prime targets, imo.

Maybe a cab service from my house so I don't have to make the 30 minute drive back and forth.
Free hotel room in base once in a while for a night on the town with the spouse, with per diem of course
Special crew room for non-commuters so commuters don't use up all the chairs sleeping from their commute.

But seriously, there are people at this airline who don't commute. I imagine you're frustrated but by asking for special treatment, you're taking stuff away from those who live in base.

and what of those who live in a base that is closing. I'm not choosing to commute but will be forced to for at least a few months.

You are also fortunate if you can sell your house.

When DFW closed there were pilots that were building houses that had to close on them due to their contracts. Add the downturn, and implosion of the housing market, and these pilots are stuck.

There are a few that commute by choice, but generally with a good reason.

I have a feeling ATL and NYC will be the only two bases at this global airline..

I know, I know. I was replying to the post about choosing to commute. I'll be commuting along with another of other people who didn't choose to. I will move, but can't do it for a few months, others will probably not be so lucky

Also why displace 73 pilots if we are ordering 100 739s? Couldn't that category stand some fattening?

Figure something out for the commuters, make more than a majority commutable. You never know when you might become one.

Ftb
Not a commuter

P.s. I don't think they can come ask for scope relief if we get short staffed. A 3 letter word comes to mind if that's approved.
