Expect leaves of absence to be offered, so effectively you can furlough yourself if desired, rather than commute to seventy hours of pay for six days of short call.

Anyone know when management is going to show up in the lounge? There is little we can do other than voice our displeasure about the continued transfer of our work (while Delta pays Air France & DCI), but at least it would be cathartic to share our thoughts, photos of the kids with no shoes, etc ... .
As much as I hope you are wrong on this, and despite the rumors and rhetoric up until recently about hiring and this awesome AE that's coming in November, we have given our management the tools to fly way too much of our network with other pilot groups to be surprised when they actually do what we've allowed.

I'll bet you that you're wrong as usual about the LOA's/furlough stuff.

At the 44 meeting this week our union guys said they believed that LOA's would be granted.....if you asked for one. They did not say whether they would be offered. Just FYI.

I've not been warm to this idea as anything but a plan B but it looks like we're headed to plan B with our tremendous outsourcing. If Delta wants to run itself as a ticket broker than why can't Delta Air Lines pilots become a pilot brokerage?

Put it this way in a format we understand (not an actual alpa resolution),

WHEREAS Delta Air Lines outsources flying to Alaska Airlines, Skyteam, KLM/AF and ASA, Chautauqua, Comair, Compass, Mesaba, Pinnacle, Shuttle America, GoJet and Skywest,

WHEREAS Delta Air Lines pilots will more than likely have a tenure at this company that far exceeds senior leadership and decisions made by senior leadership can have a long lasting affect on the careers of Delta Air Lines pilots,

WHEREAS Delta Air Lines pilots have a fiduciary responsibility to our fellow employees and our customers to oversee the safety and quality of the Delta Air Lines insourced and outsourced product,

WHEREAS it is reasonable to assume Delta Air Lines customers believe the ticket they have purchased will be flown on a Delta Air Lines aircraft crewed and managed by Delta Air Lines employees,

BE IT RESOLVED, Delta Air Lines pilot crews will fly 51% of all outsourced flights held out by Delta Air Lines for compensation or hire regardless of whether those aircraft are owned and/or directly operated by Delta Air Lines.
Meaning, if 600 flights per day are outsourced by Delta Air Lines then we shall have 300+1% of those flights occupied by Delta Air Lines pilots. Problem is Alaska, Skyteam and AF/KLM are not going to hire us so we'll have to occupy DCI.

This is NOT meant as a DPA vs ALPA question but rather an honest question.
Excuse my ignorance with this but I have not been the type to get involved with the "politics" and rules involved with ALPA, the rep's etc etc. Basically I don't really know much about anything when it comes to ALPA but I want to be more in the know because with contract negotiations coming up, I feel that's it's very important for my career.

That said, what is the difference between a Captain rep and an FO rep?
I mean, since I'm an FO, can I not call the Captain Rep if I have a question?
Or do I call him only if the FO rep is not available? If I CAN call the Captain rep, why differentiate between the two and why not just call them "Pilot" rep's?

Again, sorry for my ignorance but this is an honest question and one I've been thinking about the last couple days, and have not been able to find the answer to elsewhere.

Thanks for any info.

FTB, thats a lousy plan B. Unless DCI pilots are on our seniority list.

Plan B. I think it would be time to hike the appalachian trail, let the house go into foreclosure so the goobermint can bail you out, collect unemployment for 99 weeks, go on foodstamps, hop on freight trains and see america, write a book about what its like to be a homeless guy, etc.

The PC term is Chairman and Vice Chairman.
The secretary used to be the FE rep...

If you have an issue, speak to someone who can help you.
The Chairman and Vice Chairman represent you equally...

Cheers
George

There really is no difference.
You can call either rep if you have a question or problem.
The origin of the terms comes from the ALPA Constitution. To run for captain rep you have to be a captain. Same for F/O rep.
I imagine it was done to keep senior captains from becoming too dominant in the LECs/MECs. It was designed that way in the name of "fairness" but both are equally your rep whether you are a capt or FO.

It could be done in other ways however, the "seniority block" representation method always seems to get a lot of discussion but that has drawbacks as well. ie = The reps would always tend to be from the largest bases.
