They are successful in brain washing the membership on how good we have it. Well my friends, after 12 years at this company I'm back to a LOWER pay rate than in 1999 (727-FO - a lot less work too ). I was paying $0 for health insurance premiums and my DB was gonna make me a happy old man. Now I'm just ****ed!

Now the economy is terrible and you can call it a "horrible environment." My last trip consisted of 3 757 legs and 2 767 legs all completely full including the jump seats on several legs. The last I checked, DAL was poised to make over $500M this year in this "horrible environment." But wait, our 737-800 pay rates are 20% less than Southwest that is flying a smaller airplane. This falls squarely on the back of the MEC and the yay sayer Koolaid drinkers.

Did the company need the concessions we made? Maybe. Where our MEC failed and continues to fail miserably is not securing snap backs and agreeing to ridiculous durations on these agreements. Carl is 100% correct on SCOPE: we GAVE it to the company. The same happened with the DB plan: we GAVE it to them. Since I'm a gambling man, I would have taken the trip to the courthouse.

I've got to go take a double dose of my blood pressure medicine now.

Our actual block hour cost is however still higher then SWA. If we had a management team that made smart choices like management at SWA we would be light years ahead of them. They only got their pay rates on the backs of the DAL 737 LOA. Blaming DALPA for inept management seems counter productive to me. We don't run the airline or hire the managers. SWA avoided the issues that hit everyone else via commodities trading.

If you want to try and find a metric for how DALPA has performed you need to compare us to other airlines that went through the Chapter 11 process.

IMHO, DAL has has a very good chance of outperforming WN in the next six to 10 years.

I agree with you. I just don't want that outperformance to be on the backs of our pilots losing jobs with ANY further erosion of Scope.

Sailing:

You make a fair point. It depends what the airplane is used for. On short flights First Class does not make a lot of sense. I understand the refurb'd MD90's will be 160 seats which is pretty close to a maximization on that type, which makes sense on short missions.

Carl; I wholeheartedly agree. Scope is the easiest target when it comes to managing this profession to a lower level.

The argument I heard is we need it for our loyalty programs. Guess it is the only way to have loyal customers. After all our leaders are the ones that stated loyalty was dead a few short years ago. Now we are fighting for loyalty once all the operational costs are in line.
Next we will need Business Elite seats from ATL-MOB

Bar, Where did you hear this? If it is true, won't we have to ask for pay rates similar to the 737-800 (160)? No. I'm not willing to give up something to get anything in case the reps are lurking!

Curious...were the 75s and 76s, ever a separate pay cat at DL?
