A Leapfrog Pattern in Pay Pacts for Airline Pilots - NYTimes.com

Last summer, United Airlines set a new standard for pilot pay when it agreed to raise wages 22.5 percent to 28 percent. The airline has since said it was forced to offer such generous increases after Delta Air Lines increased pay rates on the Boeing 777 the previous year 18 percent above the industry peak.

The formula for the settlement, which is still subject to approval by the union leadership and Delta's nearly 10,000 pilots, was based on the industry-leading rates at United plus 1 percent. Delta said that the increases would add more than $2 billion to its current pilot costs over the life of the four-year contract. The average Delta pilot earned $188,038 in salary and benefits last year, according to the airline.

Interesting. So if the average Delta pilot earned $188,038 in 2000 (that's before the C2K pay increase)... let's adjust that for inflation to 2011. Answer: $245,834.48 (source: Tom's Inflation Calculator)

Now... according to the US DOT Form 41 data for 2010, the average Delta pilot earned $142,800. What percentage pay increase would it take to bring $142,800 (our pre-C2K average pay) up to $245,834.48? Answer: 72%

ALPA just called to remind you that you left out a decimal. It belongs between the 7 and the 2. Or before the 7....they were kind of hard to understand.

It was behind the 7. But it was over the life of the 12 year contract. Wait?! 12 years?

Man, isn't that the truth!! Absolutely no idea what ALPA is trying or not trying to achieve for this pilot group.

B) You live in Atlanta right? What grass do you have growing? Mine got scorched. I last cut it because it was green and tall and that I think was 3 or 4 weeks ago. It's dead.
