Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
I was a controller at Columbus in the late 70s and a Tweet was RTB with 2 IPs and gear stuck up. Wing Com, DO, and one or two more Cols were along the center runway (in their staff cars) in the area where the FD formed the runway for the gear up landing. Guess the IPs forgot about the loss of drag with the gear up and touched down just beyond the foam in a shower of sparks. Really did no damage but I'm betting they were buying that evening!

The Airbus is much more of a "gentleman's airplane".

Ok, I give up. The Hawg wasn't going to do anything at 35,000 feet that involved the gun, it could barely fly there. I only saw FL 290 and that was pretty dumb. If you weren't using the gun, the washing system wasn't needed at 350, so what was the test about?

800 hours of Hawg time, very little above a 5,000 feet except for translants.

Cool! Now I can post videos! Thanks Check.
I'm sure someone has asked before, but when do they run the vacation move ups? I had vacation in Oct and want to move it up a week the same month. I just put the request in last week. When is the earliest I can expect a result and at what date do I know I didn't get it? Thanks all as I've never tried this.
I think for October your last chance to get it will be by Sep. 5th.

The mighty BONE in contrast to the venerable TWEET:
Afterburner takeoff thrust uses 285,000 lb/hr fuel flow rate until MIL power at 360 KIAS. 17,000 lbs of gas used from engine start to initial level off. That's more than I use during an entire sortie in the A320.

Air France Aims to Sidestep Unions With Volunteer Low-Cost Crews
By Laurence Frost - Jul 11, 2011 11:32 AM CT
Air France invited cabin crew to ignore union opposition and volunteer to switch to a discount operation with which it plans to take on Ryanair Holdings Plc (RYA) and EasyJet Plc (EZJ) in French regional cities.
Air France has begun selling flights from a base it aims to open on Oct. 2 in Marseille and is seeking volunteers prepared to work there, Chief Executive Officer Pierre-Henri Gourgeon said today in a briefing in the Mediterranean city.
Gourgeon’s plan was rejected last week by the SNPNC and UNSA cabin-crew unions, which urged members not to sign new contracts offering slightly higher overall pay at a lower hourly rate and involving longer work days and reduced rest periods. The proposals won pilot approval in a vote that ended July 6.
“A union agreement was not indispensable,” Gourgeon said at a news conference. “We’re offering these new conditions for those who want to accept them on a voluntary basis.”
Air France needs about 300 pilots and flight attendants to sign up before the start of operations from Marseille, which will add 13 domestic and medium-haul destinations including Brest, Casablanca and Moscow.
The UNSA union “strongly discourages” members from signing up, the organization said in a statement on its website, and the SNPNC also said the plan was unacceptable. Air France will consider hiring new staff if it fails to attract a large enough number of volunteers, it said today.

Speaking of records - Once saw 651 KTs groundspeed on the Maddogs military cousin, the USN C-9B. We were flying over SW Japan in the high twenties in March. They turned us about 45 degrees off of the wind and our GS shot up over 600 KTs so when we got another turn almost completely downwind we bumped our speed up to the clacker (.84M) which resulted in a 651 Kt groundspeed. We figure we had close to a 170 KT tailwind.
Anyone have better than 651 KTS Groundspeed? And before all you TACAIR types chime in, I am strictly referring to transport and commercial type aircraft.
Scoop
PS - And yes, we did take a picture of the FMS to prove it later on at the Atsugi O Club.

And the prior leg :-O
Poo, same thing happens frequently at SNA. We land and wait while an Alaska jet lands behind so that they get the gate. Then, we wait until another Alaska pushes so that we can finally have a gate. Pax get PO'ed and rightly so. We might make money but what are we losing in terms of customer satisfaction?
