I don't see how replacing our order for NWA 787s for DAL 777s can be anything other than the very best possible.

The truth is that I am jealous of your union tactics.
I wish we could have gotten alot more boeing planes, a pay raise, free uniforms, and been able to split our 2.5% betwwen alot less pilots. Maybe 2.0% between a group with 3000 fewer pilots. That .5 % really made up for the extra 3000 pilots DAL has
  • Personally I don't care if the planes are boeing or airbus.
  • It is my understanding that the equity stake came out the same for all pilots thus the reason for the percentage difference. How many shares did you end up with?
  • My uniform was not free I have countless uniform pieces that I am no longer allowed to wear because DAL management wanted to stay with the DAL-s uniform. What I did get was $400 towards the $600 I spent for a new uniform that DAL management requires me to wear.

I was told Delta bought back the leather jackets. Was that not true?

Delta S folks had to pay for our entire uniform. I'd love $400.00 back on that one.

They even remembered to take out the deductions after a 5 year furlough.

I had to buy mine too...... It's just that the North uniform was replaced. I wish I had all the $$ I had in the North style uniform as opposed to the $400. Actually I would have been quite content in keeping my North uniform and giving $1000 to all the South guys for new North style uniforms. I am still for this if you guys can make it happen.

Dal N folks had to buy our uniforms too. Unfortunately we are no longer allowed to wear those uniforms anymore.

I don't see how the 787 order is going to be "replaced." For one thing the 777 is a whole lot more airplane and a whole lot more expensive to acquire. Delta, like Northwest, is cheap when spending their own money. (Their profligacy only comes out when buying 600 RJ's to outsource our labor )

Anderson did not say Delta did not want the 787, Delta just does not want some of the first 787's. The follow on model will surely be a better jet, in the way the 767-300ER is a whole lot better than the -200. The 787 itself is sitting on the flight line in Seattle, full of gas, getting ready for engine runs. They should be out stalling it, doing tail strikes and every other sort of test where they manhandle it worse than we ever will - in just a few weeks. The 787's construction is the way to go and AirBus just announced they too would use composites for their A350xwb. It is cheaper to produce and much longer lasting / lower maintenance.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the 787 being delayed worked out well for Delta during this downturn. The 767-300ER winglet birds will be able to fly much of the 787's mission with only slightly higher fuel burn and little capital expenditure.

IMHO the 767 is the 787's interim replacement and there is no fence on the 767. As far as routes go, we see NWA equipment "replacing" the 777 on some premium routes.

The 777 is a $240,000,000+ jet. The 787 is a $180,000,000.00 jet. In the eyes of our management that's another three RJ's worth of difference.

If we had gone with the NW uniform and the NW name, we would have gotten the free uniform and the NW guys would have gotten nothing. So in the end is $400 really that much of a budget breaker for you?
