Hey... that was post #68000.....
I do. I'm based in Atlanta. I spend about $120-$200/month on rooms. It's cheaper than a crashpad. I also live where I can sit long call at home any time of the day with no problem.

Well, we flew a lot less international when you had 10 years in the company, we used international widebodies to fly ATL-MCO, and SC sucks on RES on the ER.
That is part of it, but not all. International used to be an even better place to hang your hat than now. You see we used to get international override even if it was a domestic leg, however with the gutting of our contract and the associated paycuts it payed more to stay senior in a domestic category than pull reserve (which used to be a way better deal, full by the 3rd week of the month) in an international category.

DragonCon is a riot.
The wife and I are admirers of the "steampunk" genre.
She loves the Victorian era clothes, art and culture. I like the alternate history, technology frozen in time aspect. Imagine a steam powered FMS or an "analog computer" and there you have it. (kinda like a DC-9)

Steampunk is getting a lot more popular every year at DragonCon.
So much room for creativity in one's costume.
Any idiot can come to the party as a Klingon or Storm Trooper.

There is even steampunk underboob:

Agree. Last year, there was a couple where one was dressed as a zombie , but the other had a rather complex costume as a Pea Shooter from Plants vs. Zombies (her costume was complete with a traffic cone hat).

It was freekin' brilliant and well executed.

Another guy came as the "Old Spice" guy, wearing nothing but a towel. THAT is something you don't just pull off...you need the bod for it.

The science and space tracks at DragonCon are really worthwhile. They had some heavy hitters from JPL and Johns Hopkins last year that were chock filled with good information on what was going on. These are the actual people flying probes through the Titanian atmosphere from a billion miles away, and if they screw up, pffftttt, there goes your multi billion dollar program.

I met the engineer who actually flew the Cassinni probe. She was really, really smart, and had the same, deadpan humor that I have. I have no doubt she could do triple integrals in her head....for fun.

One guy from JH did a deal about emerging diseases. WAY scarier than anything in the movies or TV.

All in all, a GREAT time.

Looking at the ATL330 captain to FO ratio, it appears there will be some 12+ hour flights included which to me means Lagos in the winter.
Trying to remove the competition? The 330's fly to Europe now, and there is no New York base for them. There no reason to think they wouldn't fly to Europe from the ATL once there is a base there. In fact, I would expect some of the better flying will occur there. SEA will handle Asia, and ATL will fight over Europe with DTW. Who do you think is closer to the fleet planner's ear?

Anyone with a Sprint EVO having a problem checking flights on travelnet and using FireFox after installing the latest phone software?

Actually I'm hoping a lot of the DTW A330 pilots senior to me who commute from FL will bid ATL.

Like I said, I do expect ATL to eventually get more European flying, but they can't staff it that big overnight. Initially I would expect them to get the flying that can't be serviced from other airports.

For example, trips like DTW-FCO-ATL-FCO-JFK-FCO-DTW and DTW-AMS-ATL-AMS-DTW wouldn't require deadheads and the trips that require deadheads to NYC can still be handled by DTW. The Lagos, Accra, Angola and HNL on the other hand....

I'm confident that over the next few bids they'll staff ATL 330 enough to share Europe with DTW and maybe even add South America.
