On a totally different topic, but the 10 year mark is nearing for furloughed pilots to return to mother DAL. Any guess as to how many of the 243 that are still on bypass will actually return. This could have a big impact as to when we may actually hire off the street again.

Thoughts?

Well the pilots of the 160th SOAR who's helicopters they were are very concerned with the IR signature of the tail rotor section. The photo is of the tail rotor of a MH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter.

The only circumstance where you can be flown into vacation is a reroute and in that case there has to be no option to return you to your base.

I can't believe that there are that many trips which meet this criteria.

Also, regarding this carryover issue and it relating to wide-bodies:
1. What is the problem?
2. How many pilots does this really impact?
3. What is the solution?
You are correct that there are very few trips that allow this. Its really not much of a issue. It is however possible to build a big month with a long carry over trip because all credit is paid at the end of the trip. If you bid a 13 day trip worth 80 hours and it flies 9 days in the current month and then works days 1-3 in the follow on month its quite possible to get 35 to 50 hours pay for the 3 days in that month depending on how much credit is in the trip.

I certainly don't recognize that as a part of any helo that I know of... May very well be unacknowledged technology. Pretty cool!
Did any one notice the hook and cable attached to the "wreckage".

Prior to the merger this was not possible to do because the longest trips were 6 days with 5 days of max carry in credit.
Now with 12 day long trips guys can carry in a full month of credit AND get paid 2 weeks of vacation.
They are flying a full month and getting paid their vacation at the same time.
If you sold your vacation back, at the end of the year your credit paid would be approximately the same as this.
Not everybody can do this carry in + vacation pay thing.
You must be senion enough to bid vacations in the second half of a bid period and have long trips in your catagory.
I'm not for or against this and it is legal under our contract.
This is just an unforseen result of the merger.

Isn't it funny how you can miss things? And it wasn't like trying to spot the C141 picture amongst the German girls kissing.

I flew many trips from 9 to 13 days long prior to the merger. They are not something new since the merger. They have always been around depending on what category you are in. I really miss the Capetown layover which was perhaps the best layover in the entire system. Sadly you had to layover twice in Dakar to get one CPT layover.

1) Pilots requesting to change a primary vacation.

3) Pilots requesting to change a tertiary vacation.
4) Pilots requesting to change a quaternary vacation.
Thanks dragon, just the info I needed.
