Look. All the above is just statement of the obvious. The bottom line is that another poster asked a rhetorical question. That question was intended to be derogatory and make the tired, old point: "If you're so smart, then why don't you run for office?" You chimed in very quickly to answer the question for me. Could have easily waited to let me answer it. I think you came off as rude and a smart @ss. But I'm willing to let it go and forgive and forget. You're the one who brought it up again.
I did because I just answered if you ran or not.

Sensitive no, just a downer of a day yesterday.

Actually, I was referring more to being on committees and such.. you know.. the place where the real heavy lifting is done... That is where the real politics are too... Getting elected to an LEC position is much much easier IMO.

Depends on what base you are in. In a small base, maybe, but in a larger one I would disagree.

You are correct that the committee structure does the heavy lifting. They do the work, but I would not state that it is super difficult to get on to a committee. You do have to have the ability to add to the committee though.

Here's a fair question: what percentage of DAL pilots make over $250K/year?

Now what percentage of DAL ALPA volunteers make over $250K/yr?

Are ALPA volunteer tax returns or compensation public domain and obtainable under the FOIA and Labor Department reporting rules?
Please don't take this website down that road.

Unless you have some evidence, veiled allegations of corruption do not advance the debate. They are pretty much pointless and really not welcome.

There is plenty to criticize about ALPA. We do it every day. However, I don't think you'll find the participants here on this forum willing to accept that the local pilots who work for ALPA are doing it because of the money.

Its that bloated beast of a bureaucracy up in Herndon that needs to be brought under control. The local pilots doing committee work are really not the problem. Except to the extent that they protect the beast and its budget.

I don't think its fair to question those guys' motives. I know some of them and I've been watching all of them for many years. They're not crooks. They're good people with good intentions. They're just too loyal to the machine. Too entrenched.
We're slowly chipping away at that mindset. Convincing them of the need for reform.
Welcome to the fight.

Aren't those positions filled by the elected reps?

I'm not saying this to discredit your argument, but rather to urge you to get involved if you don't like things as they are.

FWIW, I do some committee work for ALPA (Pro Stans), and dropping a trip for union business is nearly unheard of. Most guys don't look for paid trip drops, and many don't even ask for reimbursement of expenses (usually phone expenses). Maybe other committees are different.

Side question:

Scheduling put me on 24 rest starting at 1155p last night. They called me at 8:30 am today to assign me a trip for 8:30am tomorrow. By when must I acknowledge?
