Apparently they figured out that the dropped trips and the FAR conflicts backed up faster than they were able to recover from even after the IROP ended. It didn't take too many GSWCs before they sort of created their own version of "rolling thunder" up there in scheduling.
In most cases its more efficient to just cancel flights rather than give out more than one or two GSWCs in any given category.

Does anybody ever really get a GS? In Seattle as an A330 Capt I have yet to see any one ever get a GS. I have begun to think that it is a form of mythology. Or as the way to haze a new guy, like in the early days for a new guy working at an FBO to send him next door for "a bucket of propwash"... Or a snipe hunt. Please tell me that the emperor actually has clothes .

GSWC is a whole different level of desperation on the part of scheduling. You generally only see those given out with extreme IROP situations in categories that are very short staffed. They have a lot of other ways to get rid of open trips before they get to that point.
GSWC does go in seniority order. But they would have to go through all the regular greenslip requests (without conflict) long before they would ever start processing the GSWC requests. Does that make sense?

We had some DC9 guys in DTW get 9 to 10 greenslips a month last summer. Look at the Greenslip report on the DALPA website. Typically the company hands out 1200 GS's a month system wide.

1 GSWC for a DTW DC9 FO and 1 for a SLC 737 FO.
Seattle A330 Captains got 7 Green slips.
If you want Green Slips -- Detroit is the place to be.

If you get a cargo fire after takeoff, and you check after landing, you'll find you probably greenslipped yourself. I think the contract says you can expense the laundry on that one.
