Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
![Default](https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/images/icons/icon1.gif)
I'm heading to recurrent Sunday. Rumor from the DC-9 camp... Delta has decided to bring all the -9's out of the desert, equip them with EFIS, GPS, air conditioning, and state of the art IFE systems. These aircraft will replace all the 50 and 76 seat RJ's and most of the 70 seat RJ's. I love the DC-9 and plan to stay on it forever! ![Wink](https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

RUMOR ALERT.....
Talked to a Delta mini-bus Captain heading off to recurrent today. He said rumors over in the 320 camp are stating a multi-billion dollar airbus order coming up, consisting of putting new engines and IFE systems in our current small busses, ordering over 100 new 320/319s, and up to 40 A330s. Airbus also wants to try to slip some A350s in there too as a part of the deal, maybe taking away some of those newer A330s. No 321s unless they put more powerful engines on them. That's what he said, and he also stated he loved the bus, and planned to stay on it forever.

I could see this happening if Delta has serious questions about Boeing and the 797's direction and Airbus is offering the sun and the moon to win ma' Delta.
I think the preference for an American company would be to go with an American manufacturer but that's kind of like thinking the Cadillac you're buying is a Cadillac and not a Chevy built outside the U.S. from parts from way beyond North America and it sucks but you're assured to pay Cadillac prices with the attitude to boot so why not finally commit to the Ford product?
Besides, the "we had Airbuses after the Pan Am merger and they sucked so bad that you'll never see them again here at Delta!" manager crowd is not only significantly outnumbered but probably dwindling very quickly given that was over 20 years ago. Not to mention, according to the Pan Am folks the jet was fine til old school Delta got a hold of it.

When it comes to Airbus, Delta has the pull that SW enjoys at Boeing.
Don'cha think it's a little funny the RFP came out a week after Airbus announced the 320NEO?
The 320NEO will help replace some of the Reagan-eara 320s in our fleet.
(yes, we have 320s that are older than our MD88s...)
It's pretty certain Delta will order the A321 with sharklets and the upgraded MTOW to replace the oldest domestic 757s. With the current engines the A321 with sharklets has a 17%/seat fuel burn advantage over the 757-200, an 8%/seat fuel burn advantage over the 737-900ER.
Fuel Savings...no sun and moon required
![Wink](https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
...the sharklet-outfitted A321 will be able to operate between Boston and San Francisco or San Francisco and Maui, Hawaii, with maximum passengers - similar to routes flown by the US 757 operators - but with a 17% per seat fuel burn advantage, based on a 185-seat A321 and 192-seat 757-200.
...the transatlantic routes flown by some US 757 operators are beyond the capability of the A321, and says that the primary focus centres on US transcontinental routes.
The 797 is a nonstarter, Boeing got nothing for the next 10 years in the narrowbody space...Even Gary Kelly is hinting that they might go Airbus.
Outsourcing has turned a great company into a bungled mess and it will take a while to get the ship righted, even though Boeing keeps pretending all is peachy.
Cheers
George

George, no master debate needed, I'm with you but I still think Airbus will make that pot very sweet.
I say that because Delta has a lot of Airbi via a merger and that's how that fleet is viewed. It's a different thing to have Delta order new ones for themselves. To steal one of the American legacy carriers, even though its not the same management as before, that was once a part of the gentleman's agreement to be all Boeing would be a win that Charlie Sheen would envy.
Not to mention, do that before that tanker deal is awarded and leverage it.

For the record I'm not anti-Boeing... and I'm not really anti/pro Airbus or even MD. I like to be over the top with the MD stuff but ya'll all let me get away with it and never question my sensibilities... maybe its because you don't want me to bid off?
But that aside, imho I see Boeing built one hell of a fleet in the 737, 747, 756 and 777.
However, the Boeing of today is like a 40 year old that just wants a paycheck and not a career.
Hence, scandals, waste, unwise planing base on school book theories, hesitancy and incompetence.
