The problem with DCI is that the costs there wouldnt just have to escalate past mainline costs, but go way beyond. Outsourcing today is like low fares at SWA, it's just assumed to be a given as a good deal unless some really sits down and takes a sharp pencil to it.
There are a lot of intangibles that would br good if DAL took that flying in house. If RA announced tomorrow that they'd placed an order for 76-100 seaters, and would insource all that flying over a 5 year period, he would own the pilot group...especially the junior half, and would probably roll into section 6 with a lot of goodwill.

If I had a nickel for every time I'm in our terminal at LAX and a passenger asks me for the T2 gate, I'd be a rich man.
They thought they bought a "Delta" flight so they went to the "Delta" terminal...Too bad they're on Alaska Air to go to Mexico...
