Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?

Buzz,
I think most in this country realize we are broke and everyone is going to have to cinch their belts. What is happening is a shakedown of unions, whether it be NJ, WI, OH or airline unions. They (ultra wealthy, multi-natls, etc.) are trying to further diminish the middle class, thus more money, less or no taxes for themselves. What would your feelings be if a group of politicians attacked your earned retirement and tricare? My guess is you and other veterans would go bat****. Sorta like the teachers and other union members are now. If, big if we are going to turn this ship around EVERYONE is going to have to pony up. Workers are going to pay more taxes, corps. are going to have to lose some loopholes, write offs on taxes will need to be eliminated or reduced, politicians are going to have to give up their full pensions and health care for life after 1 or 2 terms (maybe pro-rate those based on years served) those on SS will have to take a hit, same with medicare, military retirees(especially hire paid officers) will have to take a 10-15% pay hit and pay more for tricare. My guess is most fiscal conservatives won't like it when they come after their benefits, but it is ok to go after others. So, Buzz. What say you?

First of all, a lot of the Rich are out to get/Keep as much as possible, nothing new here. The union members in WI are a small minority of the middle class and they are sucking the majority of the middle class dry. People like us who had our pensions terminated should not pay higher taxes to fund their excessive (in some cases) compensation.
Raising taxes is not the answer - I would say looked at in totality, taxes for the average middle class Joe are now higher than ever.
Yes I realize that federal income tax rates have been higher in the past - but I am talking total tax burden, for example:
Look at you rental car bill - $450 total bill - $150 or more in taxes, including state, county , city , convenience charges, airport fee, steering wheel surcharge etc - these are all taxes.
Drive your car from Philly to JFK - plan on spending upwards of $20 in tolls on top of the gasoline tax which was supposed to fund the roads and bridges - Oh yeah there are state county and local gasoline taxes added in depending on where you live.
Buy a six pack and some smokes (I don't smoke) you will probably pay more in taxes than the purchase price.
Airline tickets - forget it. security Fee, TSA surcharge Government fees out the wazoo.
That county park that used to be free - $5 parking fee now - but hey its not a tax its a fee. Yeah, but taxes used to pay for all that but now they pay for the union guy to retire at 90% at 50 years old (some California state employees).
That boat ramp that used to be free $20 - sorry all that money now pays for the county ER.
Car registration - used to be $30 - $40 now CA wants hundreds.
How about red light cameras taking pictures to ticket people - certainly not a tax, but a source of revenue that is needed because of excess spending.
Bottom Line - There is no revenue problem in this country - the Pols will spend more than you give them no matter what the amount is - we have a spending problem.
Also, it doesn't really matter whose fault this is. Yes, we realize the teachers in WI did not cause this crisis but that is irrelevant we are all here and we need to do something about it.
Buzz is 100% right on this issue and please don't tell me we need to raise taxes - you are talking to someone who took home 53% of his profit sharing check.

As I recall, the ALPA magazine writers (the ones that can't be bothered to fact-check a pilot's fantastic claims of greatness) make much more than most legacy FOs, but in return they need to produce an article almost every month.

DELTA EXPANDS MD-90 FLEET
Delta has reached an agreement with Japan Airlines to purchase nine MD-90 aircraft as it continues to expand its fleet of the cost-efficient narrowbody jets.
JAL will begin delivery of the MD-90s in January of next year, and they will be refurbished and upgraded to match Delta’s domestic fleet. The purchase will not add capacity; rather, the aircraft will be used to replace retiring DC-9s and 50-seat regional jets leaving the fleet.
Delta now has 58 MD-90s under contract, with 19 flying, 15 in modification, and 24 to be delivered. With a range of 2,400 miles, the 160-seat aircraft can be used for a variety of domestic flying.
“The MD-90 is a cost-effective aircraft that helps us more efficiently maintain our flying levels as we retire regional jets and DC-9s,” said Nat Pieper, v.p.-Fleet Strategy and Transactions. “We’ll continue to look for opportunities to acquire used MD-90s in the future.”
Since 2007, Delta has retired more than 250 smaller gauge domestic aircraft including 50-seat regional jets, Saab 340 turboprops, and all of its DC-9 30s and 40s. A portion of that capacity has been backfilled with the addition of 100 newer model MD-90s and two-class regional jets.
