Delta, three E.U. airlines sued by U.S. passengers over delays | The Salt Lake Tribune
Forgive if it's a repost of the article and bad news.

Glad to see that the pilots required number is increasing, but damn if it ain't depressing to have a seniority number greater than the number of pilots required after 12 years on the property...
I was able to fill in some blanks with info from the “aircraft fleet information” Document. If you have time, do a search for it on deltanet. Very interesting reading (especially the “aircraft in storage.”)
Anyway, info is as of January 1, 2011
Total mainline fleet count: (not in storage) 728
(notes: 176 WB/552 NB. This includes all 34 DC-9-50's, as well as 5 DC-9-40's that were already scheduled to retire this year.)
Total (listed) mainline fleet orders: 31
(notes: orders listed are 1 757-200, 5 A319's, 2 A320's, and 23 MD-90's. The MD-90 figure would include the 9 from China Eastern that are stuck in the mod line, plus an additional 14. I didn’t include the 787 orders - I think we all know the story there.)
(Also, anybody know what’s up with the listed orders for 5 319's and 2 A320's?)
DCI:
Total DCI in service: 634
Total DCI <51 seats: 411 (26* prop/385 jet - no PWA cap)
(*skywest also operates 12 “branded” (i.e. painted “Skywest” not “Delta connection” EMB120's)
Total DCI >51 seats: 223 (PWA cap = 255. # to cap = 32)
(notes: includes 153 aircraft >70 seats. Does not include 7 E170 (70 seats) to be operated by Republic. # to cap with those jets is 25.)
Total DCI >70 seats = 153 (PWA cap = 153)
(notes: all props and 60 crj100/200 to be parked.)
Comments:
If you take away the DC-9-40's, (again, scheduled to retire this year - I believe this quarter, actually,) the mainline fleet count is 723. Even if you add Ed's 30 MD-90's plus the existing “order book” (8 - again, excluding the 787,) and the mainline fleet will be at 766 airplanes - 2 frames short of the magical number they need to add more 76 seat jets. And That’s if they keep all the DC-9-50's until ALL of the new MD-90's get here.
Also worth noting is that the 255 cap is a hard cap, regardless of the mainline fleet size. So if they elect to add 25 more 70 seaters to get to that cap now, they’ll have to retire 70 seaters later if the mainline fleet grows and allows more 76 seaters.
Also interesting to note: the aircraft fleet info doc lists that we have 12 MD-90's "in storage."

Also, it was mentioned at the CVG LEC meeting yesterday that flight ops has finished the new/revised commuting policy, and something should be forthcoming from them this week.

Nice info. Thanks for sharing Razorback.
For the fleet info stuff, thank forgot to bid. He's the one that pointed out the existance of the handy little document.

PBS Question - Finishing up training in March for MD-88 initial, on my PBS calendar it says "Shadow" on each day for the rest of the month after that, does that require me to bid or just wait till done with training??? Anybody?
Just a few facts to assuage the fears that have stirred around here lately. First, all jets are not created equal. We have added 10 777's to the fleet, which are the international adds since 2007. Those 10 aircraft produce as many pilot jobs as 40 DC-9's. That's right 40.
744's = 16. 199A's, and 251B's for a total of 450 pilots.
DC-9's = 34. 195A's and 188B's for a total of 383 pilots.
So we have twice as many DC-9's as we do 744's, yet we only have a little over twice the number of pilots on the 744. Using your math, we should have 720 pilots on the 744. Instead we only have 450.
What am I missing here alfa?

beyond just posting pictures of 80, who right now is OWNED by 737 crew scheduling. More 80? Sure, here is 80ktsclamp (far right) the high school which reminds me- who are we to judge his hand placement on mom's hips?
