Well...
Tomorrow is my last day in USAF, fini flight too. So I'm about to turn in my "return to Delta" from 5 years of MLOA about. I've been reading here for 5 months or so. Couple questions though, if anyone knows the answers. I was hired in Jul2001, did my IOE checkride 9/10 and flew until Nov 2001, then furloughed. Recalled 2006, took it and immediate MLOA. So only three months of flying active, then "back" but on MLOA
1. Am I still on probation when I come back, or was that waived?
2. Am I on 1st year pay when I come back, or will it be from the pay charts?
3. If I tell the company I'm avail to come back 1 Mar, will I have my choice of aircraft/base that I can hold from the seniority list, or do I get some NYC thing?
4. Is there any reason to rush-call them before the AE bid closes 28 Jan, anything I gain by trying to be "in system" before bid closes?
5. My plan was to see what I can hold after AE and bid accordingly, assuming I have my choice... What's better, SLC 73N B @63% , or SLC 320 B @ 61%? (Phx commute) Or 7ER reserve at bottom in LAX or SLC?
Take a break from the contract arguing and help an old noob out!![Wink](https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

I have no answers to the above.........except for #5. While I would love to show you around Asia on the ER, repeat after your Uncle Ferd:
Don't commute to reserve - Don't commute to reserve
I think you'll find that if you are dumb enough to commute (I've commuted for 15 years) most decisions revolve around the commute. Look at what you can hold obviously, but also look at what times the trips start and get in.........are they commutable? You'll want longer/more valuable trips so you don't have to beat your head against the gate podium or beg as often.
Your Uncle Ferd <----------PHX commuter too, PM me anytime

Reminds me of a story back in my active duty days. We had to show extremely early and unfortunately the mission was slipped 24 hours.
As I pulled into the parking lot early the next day, I parked next to our mission commander's truck (he was a LtCol). I could see that he was asleep inside. As I gathered my deployment bags etc, he woke up and slowly started to gather his stuff and exit his truck. He looked very tired as if he had a rough nights sleep. I asked him how long he'd been asleep there. He said to me, "I couldn't go home yesterday. I know the wife's boyfriend would be there and I'd rather not meet him." I said to him laughing, "You're kidding right?" He looked at me in a serious tone and said, "Does it look like I'm kidding?"
Good times.

Roadkill,
As a former long time commuter (Whoopee!!!
)...........listen to what your Uncle Ferd says......DO NOT COMMUTE TO RESERVE!!!! Especially to an international category with 24 hour short call. As a commuter, the more senior in category the better!!
As was said before, take a look at the trips and see which categories have more commutable trips and/or long layovers at home.

Did I hit one of your sensitive spots with the Flight Pay Loss questions?

The quickest, easiest, way for you to begin your review is to begin with the NWA Zip Lines. Chairman Mark McClain in his publication dated 18 October 2004 provided a synopsis of their tentative agreement which was designed to allow Northwest (now Delta) to achieve "safe harbor" by avoiding bankruptcy. This publication illustrates the pattern that was established and repeated in concessionary bargaining until our Companies emerged from bankruptcy and merged.
Here is a thumbnail. Northwest was seeking cost savings and the savings were negotiated and allocated as follows:
Here is a thumbnail. Northwest was seeking cost savings and the savings were negotiated and allocated as follows:
- Pay Reductions $161 million
- Sick leave $3.8 million
- Medical / Dental Insurance co pays $9.2 million
- Allowing the company to roll down balance sheet charges on pension funding (not a pension change an accounting change) $72 million
- Scope - $15 million ... in this paragraph the Northwest MEC takes credit for being the first to receive dollar credits for such a provision.
Judges have broad authority and talk tough when trying to compel parties to reach an agreement. Judges also get overturned on appeal. ALPA's history at the Courthouse is unfortunately abysmal ... a symptom of lawyers who practice politics more than law. I am in no position to gauge how serious our Reps felt the threat was.

I need some help. I am trying to win an argument with my sister and need to know the max capacity, and average fuel burn for the 747-400. Also the max number of pax in our current seating configuration.
Thanks

Roadkill, Do not make the mistake of commuting to work, that was the biggest mistake of my airline career. Avoid at any cost, 7ER Reserve LAX or SLC. Good Luck and welcome back.
