Good news! I just saw the short call projected times list and it says they only need 4 a day. Why would they deviate from that and assign 10? There must be a mistake.
As we all know with a operation this big there are IROPS every day somewhere.
With bases and categories all over the country they will flex on base (ATL and DTW 320) when another part of the system goes down.
The green slips are flowing guys, I'm on number 3 this month and back doored Christmas off while in the process! We are uber short on the bus!
I leave them on the jet way ask for the jumpseat and then stow where they tell me to. I ask the Purser and the Captain where they would like the bags. If they tell me the bins are full, down stairs I go.
When I DH I board early if possible and then try to stow them in crew storage, and or a closet. I generally will put the flight kit above my seat and my bag on a closet if available. If I have plenty of time from my DH to my operating flight and or I am going to the hotel, I stick the bag down stairs. If it is a International DH I put the bag somewhere in the cabin, as going down stairs to retrieve a bag can prove quite problematic.

Apparently you missed the sarcasm. The projected numbers and times are FOD. I would rather do the status quo and continue to be treated like a circus donkey by scheduling than to be upset about them deviating every day by 200% from a published list. And, more importantly, it wastes their time putting it out when it means nothing. Good intents by the new scheduling committee, but thanks, try again.
Take a peek at the SLC 320B numbers. Negative or 0 for the next 9 days. I think every 320 FO except one (me) that was on reserve in SLC has now rolled PB days over Christmas. I'm on an out of base DTW GS trip and should end up with over 55 hours above guarantee this month. I still need one more to get a PB day on the 25th which shouldn't be a problem looking at the numbers. I've seen a couple guys who have around 60 hours GS pay already for the month. January #'s look the same in SLC.
Disclaimer: For those anti-GS guys lurking around, I did this to get Christmas off NOT for the pay.
Here's my rule of thumb. If I'm DH'ing, I carry on and do the best I can to put them in the overhead or ask the FA's for the best spot. If I'm JS'ing, I ask the CA if there's room up front and, if not, where he or she would like them or put them downstairs. Most of the time he or she will offer some room up front. If not, I walk them downstairs. Works great and keeps the girls happy.

Joking aside, gate checked 'em once on 320 during a deadhead only to have the ramp close down after we parked.
Learned my lesson there, I was just lucky then didn't get left outside during the downpour.
I believe contractually, if you are deadheading during a rotation then you must place your bags in the cabin. This may just be your flight kit and only when deadheading to start a leg, can't remember off the top of my head.
Always try to avoid the gate checking, if you can.
