Depends. You cannot downgauge all of it. I see a displacement at a min. But this is steep.

For what it's worth, I've flown with several guys who were floating a rumor regarding Delta's interest in the former Midwest 717s (Airtran was said to be interested as well). I guess we can officially put that rumor to bed. The last paragraph is also a little ominous for what's left of Midwest.

Mexican Airline to Lease Boeing 717s

By Dominic Gates
Seattle Times aerospace reporter

Boeing will lease to a Mexican airline all the 717 jets returned to its Boeing Capital Corp. jet-financing unit by Midwest Airlines last September.

For Boeing Capital, the deal eases the burden of owning idle aircraft with no revenue coming in. The 717s were hard to place because they were originally developed by McDonnell Douglas and are out of production.

Mexicana Group will lease a total of 25 717s and operate them as part of its low-cost carrier unit called Mexicana Click, Boeing Capital said Monday.

Boeing will provide training and spare-parts support to the airline.

Financially troubled Midwest, based in Milwaukee, last year returned 16 of the 25 717s, and Boeing has the option to ask Midwest to return the remaining nine aircraft. Boeing spokesman John Kvasnosky said the company has not decided whether it will take the remaining nine 717s for Mexicana from Midwest or get them elsewhere. "We have other options," he said.

There was serious talk of that last fall but the emphasis is now on the MD90s.

Yep they wanted too much for those jets. DAL said not thanks.

What is the percentage cut if we switched 76s to 75s? Seems you could do that and cut the seat capacity at least 5%. I know some routes demand a 76 due to range but most of Western Europe can be reached with a 75 out of JFK. Send the 76s to get the winglets during this down period. Call me Pollyanna!

Here's some great news. Citigroup reported today they are operating at a profit, & AT&T announced they would ADD 3000 jobs this year.

The market is doing well today off the Citigroup report. Let's hope we are seeing the begining of a rebound.
