Last week, ALPA president Capt. Late on Friday, ALPA received an invitation to meet with the TSA this afternoon to discuss this important program. ALPA was informed that the administrator had taken ALPA’s message seriously and that he wants to see CrewPASS implemented as quickly as possible. To help facilitate that, TSA has now dropped its previous requirement for pilots to be enrolled with a biometric (e.g., a fingerprint); this provision will be restored in the future, but what it means for now is that CrewPASS becomes much simpler and less expensive to implement than previously.

The TSA is meeting with the airlines tomorrow (Tuesday) and has asked us to coordinate with the other parties in an effort to facilitate the success of this program. Capt. Prater has reached out to the other crewmember unions and industry officials to develop a consensual solution.

TSA today emphasized that ALPA had “cleared the way” for CrewPASS to become a success.
This should make this MUCH cheaper!

Actually the Biometric was one of the biggest costs. There are a few others, but they can be easily accomplished. I believe they required a new set from everyone, so yes, it would have taken time and money.

Seems that way, but wait for the details to come out. This was one of the resolutions that Super was adamant about. All of this stuff came from line pilots and fixed a lot stuff.

No, we did not have to give anything up to get any of it, btw!

That statement kind of rubbed me the wrong way. What more did you expect to give up to get this? Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it sounds like you might have been expecting to have to give up something and that you are relieved we didn't. If that's not what you meant... sorry, but I do think we need to be more careful how we say things so that they are not subject to being misinterpreted. Perception and expectations are important.

My gosh 88. The point is and was that there was no quid pro quo, and yes, it was said TIC.

Point was they were all improvement with no give. No more no less, Sir!

Got it. But I'm not sure you got my point. We (and especially anyone who is in an official or even unofficial leadership position) need to be careful that what we say is not misinterpreted like that. Especially given that many of the LM proactive engagement supporters keep saying things like "what are you willing to give up to get that?" IMO, our MEC administration has spent the last several years setting the wrong expectations. To overcome that deficit, we need to be very clear that there will be no quid pro quo's. We're digging out of a very large hole and there is nothing more for us to give! Management needs to understand this. And even many in our own pilot group need to understand it. I'm glad that you do.

Kudos to actually getting progress made on crewpass! Too bad it took this to get their butts in gear...
