Okay, let me see if I can put this in a picture format.
This is Delta Air Lines today:
It's actually a MD-90. But what is an MD-90? It's an upgraded MD-88 that was introduced in 1987, which was an upgraded MD-80 which was introduced in 1980 which was a stretched DC-9 first introduced in 1965- by Delta btw. So, its an old airplane that has gone from 60 some passengers and 12,000 lbs of thrust to 160 seats and 28,000 lbs per side. The cockpit has some fancy stuff mixed with some of the original. I think all airlines are like that.
Except the new ones, like say Jetblue who probably looks more like it's very own EMB-190s that are clean sheet designs with dual HUDs, all the avionics you could ever want, big windows and wider seats.
This is say, a Jetblue as an airline:
We won't ever be clean sheet and that's okay. There is a lot you don't want to get rid of from the old Delta and old NWA. So in time, with the right leadership (which we have) and the sexiest pilots (which the APC crowd is) we're going to go from 9, to 80, to the 88 (DAL pre merger) to 90 (post merger, especially in time) to those Saudi 90s or 717 cockpits (to future Delta), metaphorically speaking.
This is where Delta is headed:

It's all about the union vote going on right now.
Scare the old ladies in ATL by telling them DAL is going to send their jobs overseas if they don't vote for union protection.

Budapest evidently. We can all do this and my argument is this for us, without regard to what happened here, no heads down during taxi.
You can't beat it! Old can be improved and while it'll never have the benefits of a clean sheet, it will have what clean sheets don't have, resources. Resources that come from history such as huge fleets, access to limited airports, credit histories and Carls. Sure there are some legacies that aren't so good but heck people will put more into lcc then virgin if lcc got new management or was split.

This is a real problem. Gate agent are now to have the numbers in the computer at D-7... So they get a delay if this is not done. I asked several ACS in ATL about this and they said yep they cannot reopen a flight after D-7 w/o getting a delay. So if they said they will not add people after have closed the flight. Even with 6mins left. Seems counterintuitive to me.
So what's the point of being able to block out 5mins early with people still at the gate?
This last trip I got most of WDRs 5-6min b4 sched dept. Who knows how many tight conx ( that could have used 5mins more) we left behind.
Attn New York based pilots... Council 66 elections are now open. You can vote for your reps online, it's easy and takes less than 3 minutes... just log into the alpa website (www.alpa.org) and click on the big vote button in the upper right hand side of the page. Election runs until 10am on Nov. 10
