With AA & UA/CO receiving ATI with their Japanese partners you now know the reason we got 2 HND slots!

Heck I even have an artist rendition of it in DAL colors I got from a Boeing buddy, but that does not mean that Skyteam may put the 748i at a carrier like AF and keep us doing point to point on smaller jets.

Heck, I have a set of 787 cockpit graphics that I got from a buddy in the training dept. They've not been any help getting the a/c on the property.

Heyas,

I hope something is in the works...

The new UAL/CAL WB fleet:

B747-400: 24
B777-200: 74
B767(all) : 61

Not to mention 170+ 757s & 737-900s

THAT is a bunch of heavy lift.

Maybe we can steal Avis' old tagline "we're #2, we try harder"...

Which may be the reason for the 764 rumors. Boeing made a whopping 37 767-400s, 16 went to CAL and 21 to DAL. Maybe CAL doesn't need the 16 anymore and while you might not want to sell them to DAL at least DAL would probably buy your entire small fleet and outside of JFK/EWR you know DAL 764s won't be coming back in with a foreign carrier to compete against you in your hubs.

And you just raised their debt and if you don't sell them now DAL might run off and secure other aircraft and not have room for a fleet you're no longer interested in.

I remember Jim Whitehurst saying before he left Delta that if anyone at United ever actually ran that airline, that Delta would have a tough time competing with all the widebodies and route autorities they have. Add CAL into the mix with EWR Atlantic traffic, IAH SA traffic, and their 777's and 767's and I think we will have a very feirce competitor.

That being said, I don't think that having more aircraft and routes is gonna do alot of good. If we want to beat the new UAL and SWA, we need the best frontline employees of any airline. Spending 2 Billion on interiors, intertainment, and seats is a good move, now we just need to figure out how to get the public to think that DAL FA's and agents are nicer than those at SWA. Not sure how we're are gonna pull that one off.

I don't mind have a rational competitor - it's the stupid ones that kill us. A rational competitor won't dump seats at low prices, because they understand that hurts both airlines.

It's going be be pretty hard - SWA treated me and my family really nicely when I used a Zed fare on them over the summer. I see why people like them.

And it'd be money well wasted. If the customer was in the wrong its still going to be DAL's fault and especially the agents fault. And the FA was an [fill in the blank] and screw the pilot that came out to talk to me too, etc.

What I think you should do is reduce risk to poor customer service since you can't win every battle. Increasing pay for front line employees is key. Better systems whether technology based or not is key. Consistent product from gate to seat to baggage claim, maybe the ticket you bought is on the airline you thought?,good prices, good frequent flier programs, access to where you wanted to go wherever that may be, frequency, ability to handle SWOPs effectively, airplanes that are comfortable and so on would top my list.

The good thing to me is the competition may get fierce but it'll make us a better airline. Hopefully BODs at any airline that matters will hire RA's and GB's over some of the types that have graced senior positions before throughout the industry when you made money on 50% load factors.

Airbus has completed its market study into re-engining A320 family aircraft and New York-based Bernstein Research said it expects the manufacturer to move ahead with the program. Bernstein reported that customers generally have a positive view of a re-engined A320 with 15% better fuel burn. It added that Airbus sees no technologies, other than the engine, that would provide a step function improvement in narrowbody performance in this decade.
