Glad nobody was hurt.

Wow. You would have thought I'd have felt something!

Seriously, how the hell did that happen!

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe the safelight docking system activated and gave the captain taxi in signals.

However, don't we just kind of sit on our hands and when we know we're going to be towed? The tug goes out to meet them so they know there is one down there and you wouldn't power up a plane knowing a tug was down there and watching rampers approach the plane at 45 degree angles.
The problem with the 744 is that you're so high above the ground, you can't see anybody or anything unless they are way away from the airplane. Not making excuses, just sayin.

I am going to read all of the 145 page proposal and see what it totally entails, but there seems to be some gaping holes here and there. Time will tell though.
I think the rules are "local" time departures, not base time. If planes leave too early from Europe, they won't hit the correct bank of connections at the base. And, I would think ALPA would find those gaps and state something in the next 60 days. The departues leaving the US at night for Europe might necessitate an extra crew member even for the short Europe stuff since they are allnighters too. It is supposed to take that into account.

They are "Base" times, not local times. Based on what the chart says, you could depart at the usual afternoon or evening time for Europe and fly 9 or 10 hours, then as long as you reported in Europe on day 3 after 11AM, you'd be good for another 9. That would definitely cover England/Ireland, and Spain.

That is how I read the clif notes I got. I want to read the entire document, so we will see what I find.

I know that we can reset base time after a lengthy layo so that may be buried in there somewhere. I guess we will find out.

One point that no one has made is that many of the current FAA restrictions are PWA restrictions as well. We also go above and beyond on my of these restrictions too. With these changes I am sure DALPA will see some room for leverage if the pilot group deems it appropriate.

Looks to me like the lead marshaller blew it by dropping his hands and walking back toward the jet. Of course, doesn't answer how the crew didn't know they were hooking up the tug.

If you want to dramatically raise your BP, read the comments below the YouTube video. Morons.....
