Nosmo, I saw the letter too, and if that occurred as stated, there are issues with it. I know that the reps were aware of it, and the general consensus is that this was part of the PAC Rim ride along program. The used LCA's and AQFO's where ever possible, but if they were not available they were using experienced first officers. That is what I understood to be the intent of the program. It seems to have died.

I always read those forums, just to see what is up. I recall seeing that stuff on there last month. I did not know if there was a final resolution to it. I know I would want to know if someone was watching over my back and not telling me though. I am not sure if that is what was going on though.
Gee, wouldn't it have been easier to just ask for help from the pilots that have been flying Asia for a decade or more?

I think that is what they did. I could be wrong though.

A captain I flew with recently said that his "ride-along" guy showed up in PEK with the wrong type of visa (tourist vs. crew visa) and got the whole crew detained for four hours. Needless to say, they weren't too happy that he "rode-along."

Our AQFO was an ALT guy and had never flown in Asia or been to Osaka (the three of us had been to Osaka numerous times plus had lots of Atlantic crossing experience). Nice guy and very knowledgeable of Delta procedures, but I think a whale FO instructor would have made more since if they were concerned about our first Pacific crossing. JMHO

Plus, when we told some LA guys about having Asia TOE they asked "what about us"? They hadn't been to NRT before either but didn't get anyone.

Don't get me wrong, I think the company being willing to spend money to make things go smoothly is great. But, I think they could have better used available experience.

I guess the word "against" gives the incorrect connotation. What you state is what I was inferring.

It is as you say, a bet that the price at the call point will be higher.

So thanks for the kind words.
"to put a "Put" in??????????"
Right.

That's what I did, but you need a car. The shuttle has a very unuseful schedule. You can take the light rail to a bus to a hike from the bus stop through the main gate to billeting. Not much fun on any day, but REALLY not fun in bad weather (Minnesota: 10 months of winter and 2 months of bad ice fishing ). A taxi ride is required for off-hours or short-notice trips.

That being said, it is a great alternative if you have wheels. Nice rooms, around $35 or so, with free wi-fi/gym/BX/dining hall access.

Thanks for that opinion man. I was hoping that the Southies wouldn't appreciate similar treatment.

Going across the Pacific isn't rocket surgery. It's on airways Class II navigation... no plotting chart required. (I found it interesting when they insisted on doing one anyway.. but to each his own) The main reason that -ER guys were going along (I being one of them) is that the fNWA guys had little if any experience flying over water.. and NONE in the -ER. A whale or -330 guy would have been a total waste of time and money.
