Heyas,
You will never see the 717 here, let alone any of the EMBs or C-series.
Management wants to move the bar foward, not back. Having a 100 seater on the property doesn't fit into their negotiating game plan for 2012, thus the haste to have the DC-9-30s depart ASAP.
Note the subtle "the 319 doesn't make money" mantra that they have already floated.

Not sure if you are related to NewK or not, but you are spot on. From my understanding the 319 was essentially a weight reduction that came along to better fit the US market, the 320 initially had range/payload issues. Whereas the 737-7/8/9 was better answered by Boeing (something else I thought I'd never admit). I can honestly see management having a beef with the 319, if my memory serves me correctly that's one less seat than a DC-9-50? Now contrasting the lease on a 319 to that of a 737-8 transcon machine with how many more seats? I agree the assault on the 100 seat market is already in play, the question remains as to what and who will replace that market. Is the E190 and 195 really that bad of a machine when considering range and payload? Is it worse than the Dc-9 with flaps zero 6% overspeed takeoffs in the summer? The APU, cost to operate and customer experience has got to be better. How about 900 vs. The E-series? Rode the 900 from DTW to DFinW, nice machine.
I never said that I thought that the 319 ACTUALLY has a hard time making money.
But I'm sure that's how the company wants it spun.
Two entirely different things. Remember the "long term" plan for "Skyteam Airlines": Nothing smaller than a 757, (and not even a lot of those) and then only for core, high density markets.
Everything else outsourced. Everything.

I remember someone talking about how the 319 was a plane built around niche markets like Hayden, CO and stuff like that?? I'm sure having 737s on property is killing the credibility of the smallest bus. Last time I XCMd on a transcon, the 737-800 was sipping on about 5500 pounds an hour about an hour after a 160,000 pound plus takeoff. The 737 is a killer machine whether it's high frequency (LUV) or transcon. As long as those things keep showing up as replacements for the 319 I might be cool with that (sux to loose such a worthy cockpit layout). Giving up the 100 seat market, that's not even negotiable in my opinion.

Hey guys, reserve question. I know I'm going to get another trip on Friday. There are 5 in open time and we're -1 available out here. So, I put in my recovery preferences for trips. Does the computer process those or is it done by the schedulers? Thanks.

Or is there something else that says you don't want to be called but if you do have to work then pick these?
No, not a yellow, because I'll be on call for those days. But you can't put in recovery preferences which, I think, means I can show trips that are open in priority order. I've only been doing the reserve thing for about 7 months now and haven't done it before. Just wondering if it actually works or not, and how it's done if it does.
I got a yellow slip last month that only operated on my on-call days. It did take me over the ALV, so maybe that's the caveat that allows it. Only my second month of reserve under these rules.

If you want a specific trip out of the 5 then you need to put in a yellow slip with the rotation number you want. They will only look at your recovery preferences if you are re-routed and subject to the 23K recovery rules. The computer will spit out which 5 guys are getting the 5 trips then the scheduler will see the yellow slip requests from those 5 guys and honor those requests based on who is the most senior out of the 5. The only time I submit a yellow slip is in the exact situation you are in and I really want a specific rotation since I know I'm getting called anyways. The yellow slip preferences work to get me the trip I want 90% of the time.
