Just wondering if the MD-90 purchases are also preemtive on Managments front for th 2012. The 737 has a lot of other companies to compare payrates with ala AA, SWA, etc, where the MD-90 seems to have almost no equivilant at any other major. How can we say we want this much $$$ when no other Major really flies them, what can we compare to?
Let's not kid ourselves, the days of pilot cost being the primary cost of AC operation are long gone...

More signs the LGA slot swap isn't going to happen?

I was thinking the same thing. No way they will fit all that in our terminal.
How about comparing to this instead of the air frame. The Seat.
Southwest pay for a 12 year Capt and FO respectively are $206 and $144 per hour for a 137 seat 737-700.
This works out to $1.50 per seat/hour for the Capt and $1.05 per hour for the FO.
Next, determine their pay rate for 2012 as these are todays numbers, then take that figure and multiply by the number of seats in each a/c type.
Determine a percentage above that number for pattern bargaining and add. Be certain to put a cost of Living adjustment/clause in and.....
Finally, except NOTHING less in the next CBA.

Also, going to this metric you describe takes things like the efficiency of the next get jets out of the equation.

The 90 is a smart choice for the interim future. Boeing and its competitors are looking at finally building and delivering a jet that has savings in the range of 18-25% over the current narrow body options. Why in gods greed earth would DAL want to spend that sort of money on a jet that will be obsolote in 10 years. Buy a band aid for this seat size and then go all in on the new ones.
Add to this the cost of acquisition is so cheap they can afford to be wrong.
The pilot group must also decide if the coveted SWA rates are enough.... No I mean that. There rates went up slightly in this short CBA but are amendable again in the end of 2011.

Great point. Tired of being managements cash machine when they need help whether it is due to their failings as stewards of the company or not. The $ 1 B + a year in savings "Note" is due.

You can multiply the savings by two since we are not two pilot groups that had those costs taken from our compensation packages.
My thought: I think that the auntie annes pretzel with a hotdog in it is one of the tastiest things I have ever eaten. You have to put your health consciousness on hold though.
Mods take this down if it violates TOS, but this is a real company:

Is her pierced bellybutton going to set off the metal detector?
thats an understatement...
During a SLC base visit with SD the network guys were asked this...
I'm paraphrasing but heres the gist of it:
MD90 vs 738
-738 flies 25 days of the month before breaking even, the last 5 days are gravy, the used MD90 are almost the other way around.
- Was asked about the hourly operating cost difference between the MD90 andwith 160 seats vs 738. The network guy dind't give a specific number but asked to guess at $1500 he still was making the "higher" motion...
-In the pilot lounge the Network guy said "obviously the crew costs are lower on the MD90...."
There's a reason the BOD last year authorized the purchase of up to 65 used MD90...

And ACL, thanks for the kick. I would say my inner ear wasn't messed with and that'd help me get out but thats when I remembered my inner ear is ruined thanks to a loud band last night. One that played anything you want if you write it on a $20 bill. Which inspires a thought... "ladies and gentleman, welcome to Atlanta, we're about 15 minutes early but unfortunately our gate is occupied for about another 30 minutes. We appreciate your patience while we wait for our gate, but I just wanted to let you know that the Captain and I do park planes for tips. So if you want to write down on a $20 bill which gate you would like us to park and kindly hand it to one of our flight attendants, and if it actually makes it to us, we will park there, without asking."
