I would expect them to buy parts of Mesa as well.

I also would not be overly surprised to see SKW Inc, to buy Pinnacle Holdings once the flow issue is finalized.

It is the consolidation that the regionals need.

The only questions is if the DCI air service agreements would be kept intact in the event of a sale to another party like SKW.

The MD-90 has a slightly lower block cost than certain segment lengths than the 738.

The a/c with the lowest CASM is the 753, then the 744. (As I recall from looking at the CASM's sometime last year) I could be wrong in today's market.

Denny,

res ipsa loquitur.

Technically, in Latin, it means: "the thing itself speaks," or "the thing speaks for itself."

But, the way it's used today, especially in the legal world, it means: "its obvious." Meaning that from the way things look, you can infer something to be true.

I think I was trying to be clever one night after a glass of cognac and forgot it was there. But, my thought at the time was that you can infer who works for who, present and past, by looking at what they are writing.

One thing to keep in mind is that with a one pay fits all system LOS pay is normally moved to 25 or 30 years max. Quite different from the 12 years we have now. In addition you lose the ability to generate pay raises via new equipment. Part of this thread is about the 737-800 paying more then the Maddog. The reason is we were able to get higher rates because of the greater efficiencies of the airframe. Lots of new aircraft types will be coming online in the next 30 years. It would be a major mistake to give that up.
I wouldn't say that there will be LOTS of new aircraft types coming online... but in a sense you are right. We gave up 3.B.6, and what did we get for that?

We had that already. It was called 3.B.6.

Why, C2K rates! We sold a pay tool, used effectively when the 777s came, for pay. Yep, hoodwinked again. When will those silly pilots learn.

It sounds very scary to some that they do not know the exact percentage they will get each year, but one must remember that your buying power, which is really what matters, stays constant. That is what matters. If I had the time I would look at the PWA's from the 80's forward. Everyone benchmarks C2K but you need to realize that it was a home run that really was making up for previous prolonged section six negotiations.

Even in the last downturn COLA was Zero. We have not had deflation for a very long time. Government will do anything they can to keep inflation positive. (Makes paying back the debt easier since today's dollars are worth less than last years)

I admit it is a change in thinking, but it is one that keeps each position at the same buying power Y-O-Y with a rational few percentage points like we are seeing now. Putting a COLA rider after the amendable date takes many of the advantage away from the company for prolonged section six talks. It also take the Associations constant need for large gains and rationalizes them. In plain English, it means the members are able to buy the same stuff year over year, so there is less pressure on the administration to keep kitting those long balls.

Just a though that I have put much though in to.
Great post, acl. You are spot on. I don't know why the union has never even opened for a COLA as far as I know. Then we have to justify our "20% pay raise" when in reality, that is nothing more than an expected break even relative to inflation. Personal opinion, but if we had a COLA, it'd be a lot harder to get a contract ratified when we see how pathetic/non-existent the "raise" really is...

But its time to have a little "truth in advertising". JMO.
