Apparently, in the eyes of the TSA, you are only part of the crew if you are actually working the flight, and/or are on an official company business ticket. Anything else, you are a passenger and must be screened.

Carl,

At this point, I think that if you did say something positive about Delta, they would just think you were being sarcastic.

With a new hire class starting tomorrow (although I assume they are mostly recalls) will there be an AE soon?

The bulletin is BS. I can understand if they want to prevent guys from abusing the SIDA doors, but to make someone who ALREADY cleared security and hasn't left the sterile area exit and RECLEAR security is a waste of time and resources. This will further inconvience passengers, and is another example of the failure that is TSA.

The thing that gets me is why doesn't someone like SD fight this stuff?

There's got to be a point where you go "No...we're not doing that. That is ridiculous and completely unnecessary. Do your job and screen the people that need to be screened."

Plus this doesn't really do anything. I assume this is to try and get people to get thier bags rescanned, but what prevents them from leaving items in ops or other areas, clearing security and reclaiming said items. REALLY does not make sense.

Why doesn't our union fight this stuff? Why aren't they creating some nifty YouTube video to show the public how stupid some of this stuff is?

I have two concerns with all this.

1) How do we document that we went back out and came back in? Do we hit a kiosk for a boarding pass and will the kiosk now have to spit out something for jumpseating? (Dumb, you still have to get CASSed...and what about off line jumpseating)

2) The memo says working crew have different rules than NR. Does that mean that commuting will now need to use passenger liquid and shoe rules? Shoes, not a big deal but a little plastic bag with travel shampoo and tooth paste while going on a 13 day trip is dumb.

So, the company needs to put out more guidance. For an $11,000 fine, I don't want to leave it up to a TSA guy's interpretation.

It needs to be fought. It's silly, and it's a waste of time and resources. With capacity down, but loads up TSA lines get longer and longer. Wait times increase, and pax are further inconvienced by the TSA so they're already ****ed before they even get to the plane.

As others have already pointed out, there are serious flaws in this new procedure. It will not work. Who do we start shaking the pitch forks and torches at?
