We they are on furlough bypass, and the other ones would be on furlough.
The way I understand it, the furlough bypass ones need there to be active hiring occurring to come back. They also need to give 30 days of notice. Now I could be wrong, but my guess would be that the newer furlough would come back first since they are not on bypass.

Actually ACL, you are wrong on this one thing. Anyone who is on a furlough bypass can give their intention to return and will go to class ahead of more junior furloughees. As a 41/2 year hostage to DL management, I'm very familiar with the whole furlough scene.

To displace to the 88 for the purpose of furloughing doesn't make sense to me because a furlough of a few hundred would still take a huge chunk out of NYC ER flying requiring, IMHO, more pilots to be trained for the ER to take their place. Because after last year's killer TSRA season I just have to say there just isn't* enough ER pilots in NYC to cover summer flying w/ commuters and bad weather.
To me the displacements seem almost aimed at ATL staffing issues and not company wide outside of shifting pilots from 767 to ER in LAX. I'll hedge a bet that we are not displacing to furlough but displacing to right the situaiton at hand.

I agree, but the junior most people are now ATL M88. It does make a furlough easier.
It is a 12 month conversion. They have not posted it yet, because it is a ton of training and will be quite complicated to staff the ER for summer and train for the 88!
