Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?

There is going to be a dispute. The language of the SLI award nearly guarantees it and in fact set up a mechanism for resolving such disputes.
The most obvious first test will be any 787 postponements/cancellations and what is a "replacement aircraft".
Hopefully the issue can be settled within the new MEC or between the two merger committees and will not require arbitration. The Roberts award history suggests that may not be the case.
The dispute fund is in place because arbitration is expensive. Lawyers and expert witnesses don't come cheap.

Heyas CE,
Agreed %100. "Replacement aircraft" language is incredibly vague, and can be construed to be anything from 1 to 1 replacements to different aircraft flying sort of similar missions.
While it's only effective for 5 years (actually more since it's 5 years from SOC), it's almost guaranteed that there will be at least 1 "aircraft replacement" event during that time that will cause a ruckus.

I just got an email saying that "we" have a new MEC. To me it looks like the same faces; Moak, chairman; one of out 747-200 Captains, vice-chairman. ect. What's the chance we start getting some young folks into those positions. I know we had one of our junior pilots fun for vice-chair, and apparently he didn't make it.
The biggest problem with our union is that we as the individual pilot don't get to vote directly in the election of our officers. It's all done in back room deals and smoke and mirrors.
I'll post this on another thread for those of you who thinks this might not belong on this thread.....

Was there something going on behind the sceens for the LOA 20, the MD88 ALV increase? I heard something about preventing furloughs until a displacement bid came and then I heard it was just while the 757s underwent upgrades.

Yes, there was, and it increasing the ALV did not prevent furloughs.
What it prevented was a displacement bid during SLI talks, and or hiring.

NW going to Africa?
Anyone in MSP hear about y'all going to Africa this summer? Since we aren't supposed to mix fleets til after SOC, I can only assume this means you. I found this while internettin'
Delta airline is set to launch its maiden flight on 2nd June 2009 using a Boeing 757-300ER with a 221 seats capacity that will be flying from Atlanta to Nairobi and shipping over 800 travellers per week.
So unless they are confusing 757-200ERs, 757-300ERs, and or 767-300ERs, don't forget your Malarone.

Atlanta to Nairobi, Kenya1,5
June 2, 2009
Boeing 767-300ER
four times weekly
I don't believe that Northwest calls their 757-300 aircraft a 757-300ER. Delta does call our ETOPS 757s 757-200ER to differentiate from our domestic 757-200s.
Anyway - the press release from the Kenya Broadcasting Corp says it will use aircraft that seat 221 people, which is darn close to the 767-300ER's seating capacity, which is 217 (and 221 if you include the FA crew rest seats).
So anyway - I think it would be the 767ER - especially since it's supposed to operate through Dakar, which I believe is too far for the 757-200ER. I don't know the range of 757-300s, so I can't comment if they can make it ATL-DKR.
