I have something to cheer everyone from Keen to Satch and gang who were undoubtedly disappointed with the world cup today.

Food. Italian food. You can't go wrong, actually you can. The best part about Italian food is learning to make it, on the Food Network. But there is a great show called Everyday Italian, you'll love it.

We watched it near 24/7 when my wife was home after the baby was born. We learned nothing. We just watched, and commented on her cleveage. There is a website dedicated to it because just about every show was like that above.

Cheers.

I should get an award for throwing out red meat in a den of wolves.
My wife and I used to watch Property Virgins and comment on Sandra's cleavage. Here's to great wives! And boobies....

Actually that Diners, Dives and Drive-In's or whatever that show is, man, it will make you very hungry. Its all 100% comfort food taken too far. We have the Food Network on a lot. When I have the remote its 24/7 news, but I lost the remote for having 24/7 news.

And the Travel Channel's Man vs. Food is awesome too. If you went off that shows recommendations for Atlanta, when we have our APCF gathering, we could do this pizza place with a 11lb 30" pizza, $250 if you and you're friend eat it in an hour. If you're friend is senior to you, you might end up moving up a number by nights end, so its not a bad idea. Unless you're the most senior guy. Or, better yet, this place:

Its a trashy burger establishment, Ferd will love it, and it will definately take out the most senior pilot in the group. I mean its all motorcycle memorbilia and trashy waitress thing and burgers aptly named the double bypass. That one in the picture is about 3 miles east of the downtown overnight (don't walk it) and there is a hard core version 3 or so miles north of the overnight in Midtown that you can actually marta too. If someone is a FFDO, all the better. I kill myself. Remember, get the tater tots and the smores desert, the one where its a pie pan of marshmellows covered completely with a flat lair of chocolate. Dip your cracker. mmmm.

I do understand the concept of adopt and go. I'm now convinced that the error was in adopting and going with the fDAL IT stuff. But that ship has sailed. Now it's time for band aids.

What every legacy carrier needs is the ability to fresh start their IT. It is extremely difficult to upgrade mission critical IT components while they are being used 24/7. The best option is to create a brand new, independent team, that will start from scratch, go to every department determine their needs, design the databases to serve those needs, buy (or rent) the hardware needed to run the databases, and do a phased integration in a year or two. When I get hired to be CIO, that's what I will recommend.

Until then, we have to realize the Return On Investment calculation that is needed for a company that is the best of the legacies, but is still deeply in debt by any normal consideration. The company has made debt reduction a priority for the next two years. In that environment they will be very reluctant to upgrade IT systems that don't produce an ROI very quickly. For instance, I will believe that WorldFlight was a better flight plan than FPS 2.0. However, I get the flight plan, I load the box, read the notes and then toss it on the console never to be seen again except to check the fuel every hour or so. Total time 5 minutes. On the F/O's leg, by the time I am done with the walkaround, he has done the same thing, and I pick up the flight plan and check the route and mileage and I am done.

WorldFlight would have to be really, really special and produce super spectacular results for them to invest any amount of money to upgrade. What's the payoff? Same for scheduling software, AWABS, ACARS, and many other systems. Making pilot's lives easier is not a big priority and they figure that they are paying us to sit there for the whole flight, who cares if the ACARS takes an extra 5 minutes to operate. How many times can you read the USA today on one leg anyway? (I kid, I kid).

So I wouldn't hold your breath on any major upgrades any time soon. I would look for incremental upgrades to existing systems until the company is generating a sufficient return on capital that investors consider us more than an impulse buy. This is not what you want to hear, but I only hold a tiny fraction of the shares of the airline and that doesn't buy me a seat on the BOD. If I were in charge, I would do things differently, but I am not in charge.

Keen,

I think the only thing you missed is that the captain on that flight SHOULD have been all over that. There is no way you should have been left at the gate.

DAL pilots do not get bumped off DAL aircraft jumpseats under any circumstances AND if the gate agent didn't know this it's her/his fault that the flight is late until it gets resolved.....

Unfreakin' believable. I'm ****ed and I wasn't even there......

When the policy first came out I had some run in's with some gate agents. All you have to do is call the dispatcher and tell him what is going on.....

I've learned, that keeps you from having to use foul language.

Payload Optimized flight with Delta jump seat requests
June 10, 2010

All jump seat riders that are confirmed in the Jump Seat Template will not be removed from the jump seat when a
flight is payload optimized. Jump Seat Authorized passengers, on standby for the jump seat, are subject to being
removed if the flight is payload optimized. If a pilot or a flight attendant is flowing to a passenger seat, they are not
protected, but those riding in an actual Jump Seat are.

NOTE: Jump Seat Authorized (JSA) and Extra Crew Member (XCM) passengers, traveling for pleasure, will be
included with S3 priority NRSA passengers and removed based on seniority.

This happened to us the other day - out of MKE. They booted a JS off - the Capt wasn't a commuter, but once I started to bring the issue up the JS had already took off. If I could have I would have run up and got him. Evidently the gate agents are either getting bad info or have no clue what to do...
I am going to print these releases out and carry them along with my JS and NON REV signs.

Would like to get a copy of that memo. Figured the best thing to do was get off and not cause a scene. Going to work would be a different story.
